Elektrochemisches Kombinat (VEB Farbenfabrik) 0-6-0F No. 15 'FERROPOLIS' (9)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Apr 8, 2022 @ 12:04:37
This would better be described as LKM Babelsberg No. 146629/1957, rather than Karl Marx FC for reasons previously listed elsewhere. The locomotive was delivered from the factory in Potsdam, outside Berlin to VEB Farbenfabrik Wolfen bei Bitterfeld as their No. 9 in January 1958. Following a visit to RAW Leipzig-Engelsdorf in 1961, it went to VEB Elektrochemisches Kombinat Bitterfeld, Golpa-Nord as “FERROPOLIS 15” but was again at Engelsdorf in both 1983 and 1986, and RAW Meiningen in 1987, whereupon in 1993, it was plinthed at the Technical Museum, Speyer.

A lot of work has been carried out on the locomotive which has seen a brand new chimney made. As said before No. 70 "Poplar" will be turned out in Stoudley’s Improved Engine Green livery for the first time in 120 years and will be a key part of the Terrier 150 celebrations this year. No. 70 "Poplar" will make her public debut back into service at the Kent & East Sussex Railway during their Platinum Jubilee Gala from the 2nd to 5th of June 2022.

Whilst basically the same, the Karl Marx FLC in Potsdam, outside Berlin, had been designated, by 1955, LKM Babelsberg, this locomotive being then No. 146604/1955 of the latter. The locomotive itself was originally delivered to VEB Orbitaplast at Weißant-Golzäu, with no recorded number, then VEB Chemische Werke Buna, Schkopau as their No. 22. Only from 1979 was it at Reichbahnkraftwerk Muldenstein as their No. 2. It was resident in RAW Meiningen 1990 then in 2000, plinthed in Naherholungszentrum, Muldestausee, Muldenstein, north of Bittefeld, where it still was in 2007.

DR (DRB) 2-10-0 No. 50.3518 (50 1008)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Apr 8, 2022 @ 04:04:21
Originally delivered by Schichau to DRG as No. 50 1008, through to DR in 1949. It was made a Rekolok in April 1958 at LKM, emerging as DR No. 50 3518-3 with their build number of No. 151018/1958 in addition to it’s original Schichau 3433/1941 identity, both of which perhaps now needs to be recorded?

DR (DRB) 2-10-0 No. 50.3517-5 (50.1286)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Apr 8, 2022 @ 04:04:08
Originally delivered by O&K to DRG as No. 50 1286, through to DR in 1949. It was made a Rekolok in early 1958 at LKM, emerging as DR No. 50 3517-5 with their build number of No. 151017/1958 in addition to it’s original O&K 13548/1941 identity, which perhaps also now needs to be recorded?

DR (DRB) 2-10-0 No. 50.3506-8 (50.903)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Apr 8, 2022 @ 03:04:33
Originally ran for DRG, the locomotive only became DR in 1949 but must have been reconstructed by LKM in 1957, appearing from there as their No. 151006/1957, DR No. 50 3506-8, as well as, confusingly, retaining it’s original Krupp number. Perhaps the Build line now needs to be Krupp 2364/1940; LKM 151006/1957.

DR (DRB) 2-10-0 No. 50.0072 (50.481)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Apr 8, 2022 @ 03:04:22
Further to my note yesterday, KM did in fact complete the locomotive as No. 50.481, but when DR revised (Rekolok) it 1957, presumably to No. 50 3502-7, LKM gave it their own build number, as it appears they did with subsequent members of the class, in this case No. 151004. So I suppose if the file it now needs to be recorded as both KM15832; LKM151004. Apologies for making more work for Steve!

Reading RR 4-8-4 No. 2102Posted by: Matthew Gardner on Apr 7, 2022 @ 12:04:31
R&N 2102 is now officially fully operational! It has made its first test run just yesterday April 6, 2022. It was pulling a flatcar, a passenger coach with a few people, and a caboose.

DR (DRB) 2-10-0 No. 50.0072 (50.481)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Apr 7, 2022 @ 12:04:11
My note of January 26, 2022 was only partiaolly correct! Only the original boiler was Krauss-Maffei No. 15832/1940, which presumably due to the circumstances then pertaining, it was unable to complete the locomotive but it woul appear the the boiler was ‘recovered’ following WW2, hence the later confusion. The eventual builder was in fact LKM No. 151004/1957 for DR, originally as No. 50 481. It became Rekolok No. 50 3502-7 before being converted to a oil burners, then as No. 50 0072-4, now believed to be un-operational at BEM. It seems that other sites mistakenly quote boiler builders and numbers as complete locomotive build numbers!

Delivered as the last metre gauge locomotive built for DR as No. 99 247, it later became No. 99 7247 which, in late 1992 became the property of DB who gave it the EDP of No. 099 157-0. This locomotive is, in fact despite my own previous note!, LKM 134027/1957 (NOT xxxO23, apologies, please see previous comments on LKMs numbering ‘system’. It was delivered directly to the DR on the Harz system as No. 99 246, possibly as part of a separate order for two additional locomotives. It was later renumbered as 99 7246 and when DB inherited the system in late 1992 they gave it EDP No. 099 156-2 before, in early 1993, the whole system was snapped up by HSB GmbH and reverted all it’s steam locomotives to their DR identities.

Delivered to the DR at Wernigerode, from where it has always worked as well as from the depot at the other end of the line, at Nordhausen, as No. 99 239, later 99 7239-9. When DB took over in late 1992 it was given the EDP number of 099 149-7, but shortly afterwards when the railway was taken over by the HSB GmbH in February 1993, the external numbers of all steam locomotives reverted to one of their DR identities.

HSB (DR) 2-10-2T No. 99.7238-1 (99 238)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Apr 7, 2022 @ 10:04:25
Originally delivered to the DR for working the Harz lines as No. 99 238, later No. 99 7238-1. In late 1992 DR became DB, the locomotive was given EDP No. O99 148-9 but when purchased by the Harz GmbH, it’s outward identity reverted to an original DR number.

Originally delivered to the DR for the Eisfeld-Schönbrunn line, that once crossed the Harz network, outside Eisfeld, as No. 99 237, the locomotive took up it’s intended duties in 1973, and later as No. 99 7237. When DB took over it gained the EDP computer number 099 147-1, shortly afterwards in 1993 being sold to the HSB GmbH. Whilst the EDP is still appropriate inside the cab, it externally reverted to a DR identity.

Although ordered for running in the Harz, it was delivered to DR as No. 99 236 initially for the Isfeld-Schönbrunn section working until 1973, when that branch closed and it gained work as originally intended, later becoming No. 99 7236-5. DB took over in late 1992 and it then gained EDP number 099-146-3, though still relevant, it reverted to a DR identity when purchased in 1993 by HSB GmbH, for whom it has worked since.
