NCB 0-6-0ST No. 22Posted by: Russell Newman on Apr 6, 2022 @ 06:04:27
No. 22 was one of the later built Austerity 0-6-0ST locomotives that were built for industrial use after the second world war. She was built at the Hunslet Engine Company works in Leeds in 1956 as Works No. 3846 for the National Coal Board for use at Graig Merthyr Colliery in South Wales. Where the locomotive spent all of its working life there until June 1978 when the colliery closed, but during its time there it worked between the Graig Merthyr Colliery and the exchange sidings on the the Swansea District line at Graig Merthyr Colliery Sidings. No. 22 remained at Graig Merthyr being stored in the locomotive shed until 1986 when was then moved to the Cefn Coed Colliery Museum at Crynant near Neath to be on static display outside their main gate there. In 1997 the locomotive was bought by Chris Theaker to become part of the locomotive fleet based at Appleby-Frodingham Railway Preservation Society at the former British Steel site at Scunthorpe in Lincolnshire. There it underwent restoration to return to steam which was completed in 2010. The locomotive is turned out in the identity as United Steel Company Limited No.22 and a crimson livery. The orginal No. 22 worked at Cottesmore Iron Ore in Rutland which part of the railway system is today the Rocks By Rail: The Living Ironstone Museum which No. 22 has visited. Since its return to steam No. 22 has visited the the Nene Valley Railway, the Embasy & Bolton Abbey Railway and the Great Central Railway. Its currently on hire to the Mid Norfolk Railway at in Dereham in Norfolk for the 2022 running season there.

Mount Tamapais & Muir Woods Ry Heisler - 2 truck No. 9Posted by: Erik on Apr 6, 2022 @ 04:04:49
@Matthew Gardner Until your last sentence the note maybe believable. With that it is fake... Safe rpm for steam lcomotive that size and era would be 320-360rpm. At 400rpm the danger of breaking moving parts grow. At 500rpm parts break for sure. Your 60mph equals 1120rpm with this Heisler...!!! Bullshit.

This is another file whose build number is slightly incorrect; I.e. it should be LKM 132034 NOT just 32034. It was delivered directly to DR as their No. 99 793, later 99 1793-1 that, after unification became DB No. 099 756-9. It has worked on several of the narrow gauge lines in Sachsen.

DB (DR) 2-10-2T No. 099.752 (99.788)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Apr 6, 2022 @ 03:04:13
My previous note regarding Phil’s 2008 note should have read Radeburg, the northern extent of the line from Radebeul, not Radeberg which is another town to the east across the Berlin-bound autobahn! Apologies.

DB (DR) 2-10-2T No. 099.752 (99.788)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Apr 6, 2022 @ 03:04:08
Another locomotive whose build number has been mis-quoted in the file. It is actually LKM No. 132029 (NOT just 32029) please see No. 132028 for relevant note! Also Phil’s note of 2008 presumably should read either Radebeul Ost to Radeberg, or visa-versa, the two extremities of the Loßnitzbahn, maybe just the computer messing things up again! Anyway, the locomotive was delivered to DR as No. 99;788, later 99 1788-1, then under DB administration EDP No. 099 752-8. It has worked for the Öchslebahn since 2001, and was still at Öchenhausen in 2012.

Only in 1980 was it displayed outside Paper Factory Tektury, Tarnówka, nr Pila until 2003 when purchased privately the following year for preservation in nearby Bydgoscz. Since then it has been exported to Spain, initially for display outside Hotel Venta de Etxalar, to the West (inland) of Bilbao near the easterly shore of the Rio Deba, being here at least 2010-2013. I have no information of it ever being employed on the ‘Trümmerbahn’.

DR 2-10-0 No. 50.4073-8Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Apr 5, 2022 @ 02:04:57
This locomotive, built well after WW2 was actually a freight parallel design to the DR Class 23.10 passenger build, of which there are far more survivors; this being the only one. It was delivered as No. 50 4073 and, upon computerisation became 50 4073-8, working through to 1978 - a ‘life’ history of less then eighteen years. From 1981-1986 it served as a Stationary boiler with Stärkefabrik Loitz and 1986-1992 with Agricultural Repair Work Demmin in the same role. It was then preserved by the BEM at Nördlingen and, in 1998, received additional attention at RAW Meiningen.
