Delivered to the DR at Wernigerode, from where it has always worked as well as from the depot at the other end of the line, at Nordhausen, as No. 99 239, later 99 7239-9. When DB took over in late 1992 it was given the EDP number of 099 149-7, but shortly afterwards when the railway was taken over by the HSB GmbH in February 1993, the external numbers of all steam locomotives reverted to one of their DR identities.

Ex DR No. 99.7239 runs round its train, the 12,40 from Wernigerode, at Schierke on the lower slopes of the Brocken mountain on 31 July 1991. At the time this was the terminus of the branch from Drei Annen Hohne to the Brocken summit. During the communist era the mountain top supported a radar surveillance complex for the Warsaw Pact and was closed to all non military personel. At the time of the photo, after German reunification, the instalation was still occupied by Russian troops. The line has since been reopened and the summit has become a popular tourist actraction once more
