Its been announced by the NSW Rail Museum that the former New South Wales Government Railways C36 Class 4-6-0 No. 3642 will have a full overhaul from 2022 which will see the locomotive return to the mainlines of New South Wales, Australia again as well use on the NSW Rail Museum’s future Loop Line services to Colo Vale. Work will start when the overhaul on No. 3001 is completed.

The boiler of former GWR Hall Class 4-6-0 No. 4930 "Hagley Hall" has now been placed back onto the frames of the locomotive which this is a big milestone as the overhaul is in its final stages.

Originally built as FS No. 87559, it was renumbered 875.059 shortly afterwards, then rebuilt after 1920 into Class 880.159.

Originally built for Rete Sicule (Sicilian Railways) as their No. 401, it later became FS No. 910.001 and was stored at Roma Smistamento depot prior to preservation in Napoli.

Our information is that in 2020 the loco was exhibited at Lužná u Rakovníka. It is stated to be in the care of "The company heating plant Veseli and Morava"

A much travelled, rebuilt (and renumbered) locomotive that was constructed as a 2-4-0 in Oullins, Lyon, France for the Northern Railway (Norte) as their No. 127 but was changed to No. 382 and then to No. 1382 before being sold, in 1873, to the Medina del Campo-Salamanca Railway as their No. 9. It was rebuilt as an 0-6-0 in 1877 when its railway amalgamated with the National Western Railway (Oeste) in 1928 to become their No. 119. Incorporated into RENFE during 1941, with it’s current identity as No. 030-2107 ‘EL ALAGON’ , it spent its last days at Madrid Delicias depot.

Actually built by Ritson, Wilson of Leeds for the MZA to become their No. 246. It was one of 70 locomotives of the class also constructed for the operator by both Kitsons and, a year later, by Cail.

Originally locomotive No. 6 BOBADILLA of the Algeciras-Bobadilla Railway, which was sold to the Andaluces Railway in 1913, and then transferred to Alicante in 1926 along with two other members, Nos. 4 & 5, of the class. All were incorporated into RENFE (as Nos. 220-021/2/3) in 1941 and No. 6 then became No. 220-023..

This is one of thirteen locomotive built by Esslingen (only and NOT as currently listed!) for the Salamanca-Portugal Frontier Railway and became their No. 7, later No. 77 of the National Western Railway (Oeste) from 1928. It assumed it’s current identity with the formation of RENFE in 1941.

One of five locomotives supplied by Hartmann of Chemnitz to the Real Compania Portuguesa Railway, and became their No.9. The company later became the Madrid, Caceres and Portugal Railway thence, with others, formed the North Western Railway (Oeste). Upon formation of RENFE in 1941, it was renumbered as 220.2005 and worked until 1960. After spending some time at the then museum in Barcelona, it moved for display to it’s current location.

Following it’s work on the CCeP (see previous note) the locomotive was purchased by the then new Minho and Douro Railway in 1874 and became their No. 13 prior to being renumbered by CP from 1927.

The nameplates on this locomotive are in capital letters, i.e. ‘D. LUIZ’.

The Class R302 was a more powerful superheated version of Class R301, of which 42 examples were built by OM e Navali, Napoli for work on the FS narrow gauge in Sicily. Many of the locomotives in each class were fitted with oil tanks behind the chimney on top of the boiler, i. e. making them capable of being dual fired. This locomotive is No. R302.23 (NOT 302.023) and was previously stored at Roma Smistamento depot prior to display.

FS No. R301.2 (NOT R301.002 - please see photograph) was originally built for the FS as No. R302 by CM, Soronno for work in Sicily. A further 33 locomotives of this class were also built for work in Eritrea.

No. P 7 was actually built by OM, Regio Emilia (NOT Milano) for the narrow gauge line, built during WW1, that ran, closed in 1935, from Trieste Aquilinia to Parenzo. All other members of the class were converted to 950mm for work in Sicily and this locomotive was earmarked for service in the former Yugoslavia during WW2 but never moved from it’s more permanent holding store at Roma Smistamento, prior to preservation.

This locomotive, Class IVc No. 4154 was built for the KUK Heeresbahn (Austria-Hungarian Military Railway) for the Val Gardena line in the Dolomites during WWI and later adopted by the FS as No. R410.004. It was stored at Roma Smistamento depot prior to plinthed preservation.

This is a 4 cylinder compound, of the Riggenbach system with the upper low pressure cylinders driving the rack pinions and procured by FS to work the steeply graded Paola-Coszenza route. Originally FS No. 9802, later No. 98002 before given it’s current identity. Previously stored at Roma Smistamento depot prior to preservation and display.

Also known as FS 850.022. It was stored for many years at the old depot in Merano (Bolzano) where I saw it in 1973 along with other museum locos.

Perhaps I was not clear enough. The firm is Setuza in Usti nad Labem. It presumably arrived there in WWII. NOTE number is A920.

The works number quoted refers to Cukr. Stare Mesto "312.3629" last known to be preserved at Turnov depot in 2019. 475.194 is already reported in Brno.

Something is wrong here. 526.001 must be a fictitious number and would not apply to a 0-8-0T. The works number given is that of SONP 32 a 0-10-0T that was at Veseli and Morava in 2016.

124 was sold to a private owner in the U.S. in 2020. It is now at the Gray Granite Railroad in Glastonbury, Connecticut and is currently being rebuilt for operation.

This locomotive was originally FS No. 90532 and latterly stored at Roma Smistamento depot before reaching display in Napoli.
