SNCF (NORD) 4-6-2.4Cyl No. 231 E 22 (3.1192)Posted by: Dale W Fickés o on Mar 13, 2022 @ 08:03:54
Am I (again ?) mistaken in thinking this is a 4-6-2 (rather than 4-6-4) locomotive, as also depicted in the excellent B&W photograph by Brian on page 178 of the late P R-W’s book in the French section entitled ‘Preserved Steam Locomotives of Western Europe’ ? It would appear that the locomotive was actually built at Blanc-Misseron (ANF), works. No. 421 in 1936 to later become SNCF No. 231 E 22.

SNCF (PLM) 4-6-0 No. 230B 114 (2714)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Mar 13, 2022 @ 07:03:33
This appears to be another mystery! The late P R-W had this recorded as being built by Henschel, the class of 160 compound locomotives being built between 1904 and 1909. However I can find no record of any of these still extant with this builder, nor any other large German producer. Several years ago ILFORD reported that this was in fact No. 1522 of 1908 (which fits) but did not name the builder. I would also, by date, concur that it is NOT by Couillet as currently stated. However, with further research it is not a million miles away from the 4-6-0 Class C built for Etat in 1909, 1541, so currently can only conclude that the builder is actually Batignolles in Bordeaux, for the PLM ?

South Eastern & Chatham Railway 0-4-4T No. 263 (31263)Posted by: Russell Newman on Mar 12, 2022 @ 13:03:43
The sole surviving South Eastern & Chatham Railway H Class 0-4-4T No. 263 has been withdrawn from service following the end of its current 10 year boiler ticket. Its overhaul should get underway later this year as the locomotive is in need of new tyres, springs and a new tubeplate to be fitted. But thanks to much recent mechanical work carried out it is envisaged that the overhaul should be quite straightforward to do.

Sorry but this is not HANNI which is a 0-4-0T as illustrated in the Zoubek book page 335 where it can seen that the water tank ends close to the chimney. At the moment the locomotive illustrated is a mystery and I do not have one listed in Trumau. I will ask my Austrian friend for help.

VR 2-8-0 No. TV2 618Posted by: Brian Garvin on Mar 12, 2022 @ 09:03:00
The classification for this loco is missing it is Tv2. VR ordered 20 from USA as the Finnish locomotive builders were under severe difficulties at the time. It is not a Pershing loco which type is bigger and longer no doubt heavier. VR tracks at that time tended to be ballasted by sand light axle loads being the norm.

PLM 0-6-0 No. 030 TB 2Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Mar 12, 2022 @ 06:03:18
Clearly, from comments made since 2012, this file needs to be amended, or a new file created as O30 TB 2, PLM Oullins 76/1870; which Brian has stated, deleting any reference to PO and 1423, with this or a second file as 030 A 1, including the PO number and, if any, a photograph inside. The problem is that so many files are years out of date but I appreciate that it is ‘rare’ for ‘new’ locomotives to be omitted!

Originally built as a 2-2-2 locomotive, rebuilt to a 4-2-2 in 1892, as I believe it still is as the driving wheels are not coupled, nance NOT 4-4-0 ?
