The overhaul on ex GWR 2884 Class 2-8-0 No. 3803, is now underway at the Dartmouth Steam Railway, as the boiler has been lifted from the frames for work to be carried out on it.

There is a possibility that the worlds most famous locomotive ex LNER A3 Class Pacific No. 60103 (No. 4472) "Flying Scotsman", could be based at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway under its new planned custodianship with Northern Steam Engineering Limited for the National Railway Museum, as its one of serveral rail connected sites being looked at for the legendry locomotive.

Work on the Yugoslavian built Class 62 USA Type 0-6-0T No. 30075 (JZ 62.669), has temporarily paused while its large injector is being overhauled. But in the meantime minor jobs have been carried out on the locomotive which looks set to return to traffic in 2025.

It has been announced that the former Gwalior Pacific Railway of Western Railway Bagnall built 4-6-2 Pacific No. 38 (762), is to be restored to steam again at the Vale of Rheidol Railway. No. 38 will enter the workshops at Aberystwyth for full restoration early next year in 2025 with the aim of having the locomotive in service for 2028.

The ex Southern Railway, Bulleid Battle of Britain Class Light Pacific No. 34067 "Tangmere", has had to be taken out of service following damage to its left side cylinder and severing the piston rod while on a run over the Settle and Carlisle line in September 2024. No. 34067 is now under repairs at West Coast Railway Company’s depot at Carnforth where she could be fitted with a replacement cylinder from Class mate No. 34073 "249 Squadron" (aka No. 34054 "Lord Beaverbrook").

While work and assessment on the National Railway Museum’s ex LSWR T9 4-4-0 No. 30120, progresses at the Flour Mill Works, both the T3 Locomotive Trust and the National Railway Museum are exploring the posibility of replacing the cylinder block on the locomotive which had been stitch-welded in 2017 and 2018 after a crack appeared in it.

The ex Carlisle Plaster & Cement Co. Andrew Barclay built 0-4-0ST Works No. 1969 "J N Derbyshire", is visiting the East Lancashire Railway for the first time for their Autumn Steam Gala from the 11th to 13th of October 2024.

The East Lancashire Railway has launched an appeal to get more funding for the overhaul of ex LMS Hughes-Fowler built Crab 2-6-0 No. 13065, and get it back into steam again as soon as possible. Details for the appeal can be found on the East Lancashire Railway’s website and social media pages.

This class of seven locomotives was built in 1908 for Hungarian State Railway road numbers 4291 to 4297 They were renumbered 40.001 to 40.007 in 1911 and passed to Roumania in 1919 where they kept the 40 series numbers. All withdrawn in 1978

It has been announced that the former New York Central Railroad Alco built 4-8-2 No. 3001 is to be restored to full working order again for the first time since 1957. No. 3001 has been placed into the care of the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society following a partnership between them and the National New York Central Railroad Museum which will see a new strategic plan for the Museum’s redevelopment. Fort Wayne has issued a $100,000 challenge grant to kick off the $4.3 million restoration of the 84 year old locomotive, with the first goal to raise $500,000 by May 3rd, 2025, and when restored No. 3001 will be the only operational New York Central Railroad steam locomotive in preservation.

Went to Hungary May 6 1963, not March. It was operated by MÁV until January 1976 when sold to GySEV. Sold back to MÁV April 1981. Put on display September 1995

The ex United States Army Transportation Corps S160 Class 2-8-0 No. 5820 "Big Jim", is now in the main workshop in the shed at Haworth where its overhaul is now underway.

Owners are wrong way round. Locomotive was built for MÁV and was sold to GySEV October 29 1963 (Was operated by Austrain State Railway from May 1945 until it was given back to Hungary March 1 1952)

As of January of this year, #4 is currently under overhaul at the shops of the Strasburg Railroad in Pennsylvania.

In 1924 this steam locomotive was built for the Grand Trunk Western. It was mostly used for shunting.

In 2025 new-build GWR Grange Class 4-6-0 No. 6880 "Betton Grange", is expected to be visiting the Great Central Railway for the first time for their Winter Steam Gala from the 23rd to 26th of January 2025, where it will be joined by two other visiting locomotives for the Gala then.

The sole surviving ex Caledonian Railway 439 Class 0-4-4T No. 55189 (419), is located at the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway at Bo’ness in West Lothian, Scotland which is its home and the base for its owners the Scottish Railway Preservation Society.

2 Cylinder simple expansion rebuilt from 2 Cylinder Compound and renumbered ex 324.087 October 27 1942 MÁV sold the locomotive to GySEV February 15 1957. It remained in service with GySEV until September 2 1981
