VFCO (EFOM) 2-8-0 No. 68Posted by: Jacob on Apr 26, 2018 @ 19:04:48
This is the “big engine”, being the newest and most modern of the preserved engines. It was built in 1919 during the RMV era and has a steel cab rather than wood. 68 was the main touristica engine with her size compared to the other of the 4 normally operable engines: 2 4-6-0s (41 and 42), a 4-4-0 (22), and 2-8-0 No 68. 68 is now running again after a spell out of traffic during which 41 and sometimes 42 were used. Burns OIL as do all the operating EFOM engines, and most of the preserved ones, with a few exceptions that were either never converted or had the oil tank removed for display in wood burning condition.

VFCO (EFOM) 4-4-0 No. 22Posted by: Jacob on Apr 26, 2018 @ 19:04:28
This loco is one of 4 generally considered to be in the operable fleet, she is the smallest, and one of 5 surviving EFOM 4-4-0s (22, 21, 20, 19 and 1). The operating fleet consists of 2 4-6-0s (41 and 42), a 4-4-0 (22), and the big 2-8-0 (68). 22 currently is in the shed needing work that is supposedly slowly progressing, but not making much progress.

VFCO (EFOM) 4-6-0 No. 41Posted by: Jacob on Apr 26, 2018 @ 19:04:29
This loco is one of 4 generally considered to be in the operable fleet. 2 4-6-0s (41 and 42), a 4-4-0 (22), and the big 2-8-0 (68). 41 has been one of the main engines for the past while, but 68 is now running again. For a while 41 was done in old style, with a long wooden pilot more similar to the A’s delivered one, and a large oversized headlight (electric not oil).

This locomotive was bought by Pioneer Coal Mine Tour and Steam Train Ride back in 1962 with the other two locomotives. This locomotive was noted at too heavy for the pioneer tunnels needs and sold to a private owner which then sold it to the Edaville RR. I believe this locomotive is currently located at the SFM depot - probably in a private shed - outside Palma.

CFP (Minho e Douro) 2-4-6-0T No. E-215 (465)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Apr 25, 2018 @ 05:04:41
The locomotive is currently under restoration in a workshop outside the now closed Son Carrió station, on the former Arta line, to the west of Manacor to where the existing line still retains a service from Palma. The building will, eventually become the Mallorca Historical Train Museum (planned for 2020) with financial assistance from the IB government, some may also aspire to relaying 4 km of the line (the land being owned by SFM) between here and another restored station, Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, converting back from a relatively well used cycle route may prove more difficult than its closure back in 1977!

Well, well. What goes round comes round. Many years ago this loco was going to come to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway after restoration at Brightlingsea. Mind you, I had more hair then and it was not grey.

SNCB 4-4-2T No. 16.042Posted by: Steve Frost on Apr 21, 2018 @ 13:04:12
This Belgian loco is a tank engine development of the Class 17 4-4-0, itself derived from the Caledonian Railway Dunalastair III design. The whole look of the loco is British although the Caledonian never produced a tank engine version, which seems a pity looking at the lines of this loco

SNCB 4-4-0 No. 18.051 (3251)Posted by: Steve Frost on Apr 21, 2018 @ 13:04:23
How appropriate to have the loco painted blue, for this Belgian loco is a development of the Caledonian Railway Dunalastair III design. The whole look of the loco is British and the bogie tender was also a feature of some Caledonian locos which were, of course, painted blue.

Since all the ex-Caledonian Railway locos were scrapped, this is a particularly interesting survivor to British eyes.
