RENFE (Fabrica de Mieres) 0-6-0T No. 030-0218 (308)Posted by: Brian Garvin on Dec 15, 2021 @ 13:12:21
Once RENFE 030-0218

Hullera Vasco Leonesa 0-6-0T No. 'Olabarri'Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Dec 15, 2021 @ 10:12:27
The photograph of this locomotive by José Martinez is a copy of the one in the site of Javier López which records this locomotive as being RS 2521 of 1882 ‘OLABARRI’, which if correct was purchased by Fenlyer, Gibbs & Co. and subsequently Hullera Vasco Leonesa. However, the late Pat Ramsome-Wallis recorded a RS 2522 of 1882 ‘JIMENA’ that worked for the contractors building the Algeciras-Bobadilla Railway, then purchased the locomotive and gave it the No. 20. In 1920 the company was taken over by the Andaluces Railway which in turn, during 1941, became part of RENFE which renumbered it 030-0202. It may be that Fenlyer, Gibbs & Co. was in fact the contractor of the above first named railway, which may solve this conundrum.

RENFE (West Galicia Railway) 0-6-0ST No. 030-0201 ('Sar')Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Dec 15, 2021 @ 09:12:15
I am somewhat surprised that no-one, even myself, has previously picked up the mistaken builder identity of this locomotive; I.e. that it should initially have been recorded as Hunslet Engine Co. of Leeds, not as interpreting ‘HE’ as ‘Henschel’!!!! It was built for the West Galicia Railway and was named ‘SAR’ with no number. The latter merged with the Medina del Campo, Zamora, Orense and Vigo Railway which eventually became part of the Western Railway (Oeste) who gave it No. 191, where-upon, in 1941, it received it’s current RENFE identity.

Bascoñia Echevarri (BTR) (Norte) 4-4-0T No. 29 ‘IZARRA’ (11 ‘BASCONIA’)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Dec 15, 2021 @ 08:12:47
Snr. J López site refers to the construction number of this locomotive as BP No. 295 (as recorded on this site), and by the late Mr. Pat Ramsome-Wallis) as No. 293. Whichever, it was built for the Barcelona-Tudela Railway as their No. 11 ‘BASCONIA’ and when later taken over by the Northern Railway (Norte) it was renumbered as their No. 29 and renamed ‘IZARRA’. In 1927 it was sold to the steel works of Bascoñia Echevarri, Bilbao s.a. and when ‘expired’ it was then stored for preservation.

RENFE (Madrid, Zaragoza y Alicante) 2-4-0T No. 120-2112 (168)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Dec 15, 2021 @ 08:12:50
Contrary to the accompanying site of Senior Javier López, I have this locomotive, built in the Atlas workshops of Sharp Stewart as construction No. 859, as a 2-4-0 tender locomotive that became Barcelona-Martorell Railway, later the Tarragona-Barcelona and France Railway No. 4. The latter company was taken over by the MZA , converted to a 2-4-0T and given the No. 168 for the Barcelona International Exposition of 1929/30. It’s RENFE number still implies a 2-4-0 tender locomotive, though it is preserved, correctly, as MZA No. 168.

Nassington Ironstone Quarry 0-6-0ST No. 'Ring Haw'Posted by: Russell Newman on Dec 15, 2021 @ 06:12:50
The overhaul on ex Nassington Ironstone Quarry Hunslet built 0-6-0ST Works No. 1982 "Ring Haw" is now underway at the North Norfolk Railway.

Isle of Man Railway 2-4-0T No. 11 'Maitland'Posted by: Russell Newman on Dec 15, 2021 @ 06:12:37
The Isle of Man Railway’s Beyer Peacock & Co. built 2-4-0T No. 11 "Maitland" is currnetly being overhauled at the Statfold Barn Railway and has just been steamed for the first time and is now completed and will return home to the Isle of Man Railway soon in early 2022. The locomotive has been turned out in Green livery.

RENFE (MZA) 2-4-0T No. 120-0201 (176)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Dec 15, 2021 @ 05:12:36
This is the first of six tender locomotives built for the Tarragona, Barcelona and France Railway as Nos. 23 - 28, later becoming part of the MZA in 1891 who, a decade later converted them to 2-4-0T locomotives, renumbering this one to No. 176. Four of the class survived into RENFE ownership in 1941

RENFE (Vicinal de Andalusia Co.) 0-4-0T No. 020-0241Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Dec 15, 2021 @ 04:12:56
Now located in the (former) Station Square, Granada it was allocated RENFE (but never carried) No. 020-0241. It was originally supplied as a 2-4-0T to the Vicinal de Andalusia Co. that owned a connecting railway to the north of Cadiz. It later became Andaluces Railway No. 05 and was known to work in Jerez though the date of it’s conversion, probably around a century ago, is apparently not recorded.

RENFE (MZA) 0-4-0T No. 020-0234 (789)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Dec 15, 2021 @ 04:12:25
I would agree with my fellow ferroequinologist, Brian, that should correctly be plated as RENFE 020-0234 (also in the site references) which was built by Couillet as their construction number 789 in 1885, that initially became MZA No. 604. Location details still correct.

RENFE (MZA) 0-4-0T No. 020-0231 (601)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Dec 15, 2021 @ 04:12:12
This locomotive was built for the Madrid-Zaragoza-Alicante (MZA) as their No. 601, one of ten for shunting duties etc. It was ‘adopted’ by RENFE as No. 020-0231 in 1941, though probably never ran for them in revenue earning service.

Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway 0-6-0ST No. 11456 (752)Posted by: Russell Newman on Dec 14, 2021 @ 14:12:04
The former Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Aspinall 23 Class 0-6-0ST No. 11456 is to visit the Spa Valley Railway in Kent for the first time as their star visiting locomotive for their winter steam up event on the weekend of the 8th and 9th of January 2022. The locomotive will stay at the Spa Valley until early February 2022.

RENFE (Andaluces Railway) 0-4-0WT No. 020-0201 (1)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Dec 14, 2021 @ 10:12:46
This locomotive is actually a 0-4-0WT and is displayed in a former guise as Andaluces Railway No. 01, though it started life on the very short Jerez Urban Railway, both being taken over by the former in 1892. It probably never ran in revenue earning service with RENFE as No. 020-0201 though it is known to have transported railway workers in a single-coach train between two passenger stations in Seville and San Jeronimo depot.

NCB, North Gawber Colliery 0-6-0T No. N2Posted by: Russell Newman on Dec 14, 2021 @ 10:12:04
The restoration and rebuild on ex NCB, North Gawber Colliery Hudswell Clarke built 0-6-0T Works No. 1857 is now complete and the locomotive is now ready for testing before entering service in 2022.

Tardienta Huesca 2-2-2T No. 2Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Dec 14, 2021 @ 10:12:41
Built for the short Huesca-Tardienta Railway as their No. 2. It later became the property of the Zaragoza-Barcelona Railway, as No. 2T, which itself was taken over by the Northern Railway (Norte) who, in 1910, sold the locomotive to the Azucarera Sugar Industries and it became their No. 3 at the Amanda de Duero plant. Originally the company had presented it to RENFE for display, when renovated, in Alcazar!

RENFE (Ferrocarril Central de Aragón) 0-6-0+0-6-0 No. 060-4013 (53)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Dec 14, 2021 @ 10:12:01
The locomotive is one of the second series (the first all being scrapped) of Mallet engines built for the FCA. However this, and three similar examples, were sub-contracted to the Swiss Locomotive Co. with another construction number, i.e. 1748, by Esslingen. It only became RENFE No. 060-4013 from 1941.

RENFE 2-10-2 No. 151F-3101 (151-5001)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Dec 14, 2021 @ 09:12:38
This is the first of 22 locomotives actually built for RENFE 1942-1946 and first numbered 151-5001 to 5022, this originally being No. 151-5001. They did not last too long in this guise and were renumbered 151-3101 to 3122. Originally they worked coal trains from Ponferrada to the coast at La Coruña, later being transferred to Leon, and at one time were regarded as the most powerful steam locomotives in Europe.

RENFE (MZA) 4-8-2 No. 241-2001 (1701)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Dec 14, 2021 @ 09:12:32
This was the first of this class of 95 locomotives built 1925-1931 by the MTM for the MZA and this became their No. 1701, only gaining it’s RENFE identity in 1941. Later members of the class were distinctly modified by the MZA into five separate groups.

Ternyck Sugar (Heeresfeldbahn) 0-8-0T No. 10 (HF 2199)Posted by: Steve Frost, European Editor on Dec 13, 2021 @ 13:12:46
This appears to be a duplicate entry of CFCD (Gr. Army) No. 13 0-8-0T at Froissy. It is possible that the builder information is incorrect and that the loco does exist at Chelles, although I can find no mention of it on the website of the Museum.

Ind Coope 4wVBGT No. 7Posted by: Russell Newman on Dec 13, 2021 @ 12:12:52
Sadly the former Ind Coope Sentinal built 4wVBGT No. 7 is no more as the locomotive has been used in recent times as spares for other Sentinal built steam locomotives in preservation and is now beyond economical repair.

British Tar Products 4-wheel chain drive No. 'Ann'Posted by: Russell Newman on Dec 13, 2021 @ 12:12:33
The ex British Tar Products Sentinel built 4wVBT Works No. 7232 "Ann" has undergone a upgrade in the fitting of a new dual geared drive that has helped increase the speed of the locomotive from 6mph at 500RPM to 14MPH at 500RPM that will make the loco more sociable and easy to operate.

RENFE (Norte) 4-8-2 No. 241-4001 (4601)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Dec 13, 2021 @ 08:12:21
Delivered to the Northern Railway (Norte) pas their No. 4601, it was the first of 66 locomotives built to a very modern“ design in small batches between 1925-1930, spread between several companies, mostly Spanish. It became No. 241-4001 only upon the creation of RENFE in 1941.

RENFE (Norte) 4-8-0 No. 240-3001 (4301)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Dec 13, 2021 @ 07:12:20
Built by the YEC, Sheffield for the then Spanish Northern (Norte) Railway as their No. 4301, when sub-contracting for Babcock & Wilcox, Bilbao as their works construction No. 101. After a relatively short working life this, as RENFE No. 240-3001 and fourteen other members of the class, finally worked at the head of coal trains around Ponferrada where several local locomotives are now preserved.

RENFE (Norte) 4-8-0 No. 240-4001 (4001)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Dec 13, 2021 @ 07:12:28
As Mr Shorthouse partially pointed out a decade ago, this locomotive was built for the Northern Railway (Norte) as their No. 4001 prior to it’s service with RENFE as No. 240-4001 fro 1941.

RENFE (MZA) 4-8-0 No. 240-2081 (1101)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Dec 13, 2021 @ 07:12:30
Built for the MZA as their No. 1101, it still awaits possible preservation although No. MZA 1155 (as RENFE No. 240-2135) produced by the same builder appears to have taken it’s place!

RENFE (Norte) 2-8-2 No. 141-2001 (4501)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Dec 13, 2021 @ 07:12:36
This was the first of 52 locomotives supplied by ALCO (Schenectady) to the Northern Railway (Norte) during 1917/18, this being their No. 4501. Under RENFE it became No. 141-2001 in 1941.
