The ex Southern Railway U Class 2-6-0 No. 31806, is visiting the Kent & East Sussex Railway to take part in their 50th Anniversary Gala on the weekend of the 1st and 2nd of June 2024.

The ex LMS Jubilee Class 4-6-0 No. 45596 "Bahamas", will be spending a few weeks visiting Peak Rail in Derbyshire during July and August 2024, where the locomotive will be operating some service trains there as well as taking part in their 1940s Weekend on the 6th and 7th of July and their Steam Gala Weekend on the 10th and 11th of August 2024.

Having hauled her final trains at the Epping Ongar Railway for the last few weeks, ex LMS Jubilee Class 4-6-0 No. 45690 "Leander", has now been withdrawn from service having come to the end of her boiler ticket and is now returning home to West Coast Railway Company’s depot at Carnforth in Lancashire for her next overhaul back to mainline standards.

The ex Furness Railway 0-4-0 No. 20, (one of the worlds oldest working steam locomotives) is visiting the East Lancashire Railway as their second visiting locomotive for their Autumn Steam Gala from the 11th to 13th of October 2024.

The overhaul on ex NCB Scotland, Giesel fitted Hunslet built Austerity 0-6-0ST (Works No. 3809) No. 8, has now been completed and the locomotive is back operational again and has relocated to the Great Central Railway at Loughborough in Leicestershire where it will now be based and hauling its first trains along the Mountsorrel Branch during the Great Central Railway’s Steam on the Branch Gala on the 29th of May to 2nd of June 2024, and will also take part in their Over Night Gala on the 1st and 2nd of June 2024.

The visit of new-build LNER (Peppercorn designed) A1 Class Pacific 4-6-2 No. 60163 "Tornado", to the Nene Valley Railway has had to be sadly cancelled as the locomotive is in the final stages of her overhaul and will not be ready in time for her visit to the railway at the end of May 2024 then. But it is hoped that No. 60163 will visit during August 2024 instead. The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust have also released a statement on the overhaul of "Tornado", saying her return to the mainline and heritage railway circuit has been delayed slightly with a number of jobs needed to complete her overhaul which is in the final stages. But in the meantime its is planned for "Tornado" to be tested at the Great Central Railway before her return to the mainline.

The ex LMS Jinty 0-6-0T No. 47383, has been brought out of the Engine House, at Highley, and has been moved down the Severn Valley Railway to the Carriage sheds at Kidderminster, for stoarge for a year or so and the locomotive will be rought out for display on Special event days during the year as well. There are no current plans to overhaul No. 47383 yet.

The overhaul on ex Southern Railway, rebuilt Bulleid West Country Class Light Pacific No. 21C127 (34027) "Taw Valley", is now underway in the workshops at Bridgnorth on the Severn Valley Railway, the locomotive will be returned to BR Green Livery. Depending on the level of work required by the overhaul, No. 34027 "Taw Valley" is currently expected to return to service in late 2025 or early 2026.

After being stored at Kidderminster Station and used for display during special events, ex Manchester Ship Canal Hunslet built 0-6-0T Works No. 686 "The Lady Armaghdale", has returned to the Engine House, at Highley, Worcestshire on the Severn Valley Railway for display again, this time for the children the original Thomas the Tank Engine face from her days as Thomas the Tank Engine during when the Severn Valley Railway had Days out with Thomas events in the 1990s and 2000s has been refitted.

Ownership of ex LMS 4F 0-6-0 No. 44422, has now tranferred from the 44422 Locomotive Company Ltd. to the North Staffordshire Railway Company (1978) Ltd. early this year, and they have now launched an appeal to fund the next ovehaul to return No. 44422 to service again in time for its 100th birthday in 2027. Details for the appeal and how to donate to it can be found on the Churnet Valley Railway’s website and social media pages.

This locomotive is no longer there, its located next to the Horoshin hotel & spa in Numata. The locomotive is kept in a small shed next to the road but is pulled out for display during spring and early fall and spends its winters inside

It may have missed out on their Spring Steam Spectacular event over this past weekend of the 3rd to 6th May, but new-build GWR Grange Class 4-6-0 No. 6880 "Betton Grange", will visit the West Somerset Railway hauling trains there during July 2024.

The former Pen-yr-Orsedd Quarry, De Winton 1894 built 0-4-0VBT "Pendyffryn", is now located at the the Vale of Rheidol Railway at Aberystwyth, Ceredigion in Wales, its new home where it now on display in their new museum in the former Great Western Railway locomotive shed at Aberystwyth.

I saw this locomotive today. It is in very bad shape. The wood cab is completely rotted, and is full of leaves. The staff said it is next in line for a much needed restoration
