One of William Stanier's 'Jubilee' class, named after the silver jubilee of King George V - one of the class was named 'Silver Jubilee'. Others bore the names of British dependancies of the time - two of the other preserved locos have such names - 'Bahamas' and 'Kolhapur'. Other batches were named after mythical characters, hence this one's name is 'Leander'. In 2003, the loco has returned to traffic in the 1930's red colour of the LMS, very much as shown here leaving Scarborough in the 1970's. However, it derailed at the opening of the extension to the East Lancs Railway, fortunately at very low speed, with little apparent damage.
