The Great Western Society at Didcot are opening offers for letting other organisations or preservations groups to take on the loan and overhaul of their ex GWR King Class 4-6-0 No. 6023 "King Edward II", to see it steam again for preserved railway use or if possible mainline running??

The ex GWR 4300 Class 2-6-0 No. 5322, is to have a cosmetic make over as its to be repainted into GWR Green livery with Great Western lettering on the tender. No. 5322 is currently on display at Didcot, having last been steamed in 2008. There are no current plans to overhaul the locomotive anytime soon.

The Festiniog Railway’s George England & Co. built 0-4-0ST+T No. 2 "Prince", is set to return to service in 2025 to help celebrate the Festiniog Railway’s 70th anniversary of preserverd trains at Porthmadog. For this celebrations then the locomotive will be turned out in the Garroway Green livery she was painted in then in 1955.

The restoration of ex GWR 2884 Class 2-8-0 No. 3855, is progressing well at the workshops at Bury on the East Lancashire Railway as its tender has been fully restored and complete and work is now focusing on the locomotive it self.

The overhaul work on ex Samuel Fox & Co Hudswell Clarke built 0-6-0T (Works No. 1731) No. 20 "Jennifer", has now been completed and the locomotive is currently at the Avon Valley Railway for testing and running in trials before returing home to the Aln Valley Railway soon.

The overhaul on the 1975 built working replica of "Locomotion No. 1", has now been completed by Locomotive Maintenance Services at Loughborough and is now operational but yet to be tested and has just returned home to Hopetown Museum where it will be on display over the Christmas season with some the replica Stockton and Darlington Railway rolling stock which has been built to mainline standards in rediness for the Railway 200 celebrations in 2025 marking 200 years of opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway. The replica "Locomotion No. 1", will be on display in the Carriage Works at Hopetown from 26th of November to the 31st of December 2024, afterwhich it will undergo testing in the New Year as for part of the celebrations in 2025, it is planned for the replica "Locomotion No. 1", to run on the mainline along part of the orignal route of the Stockton and Darlington Railway from Shildon via Darlington to Stockton in September 2025 which will be a national event then.

After 50 years of preservation on the Isle of Wight, the former Anglo Persian Oil Co. Andrew Barclay built 0-6-0T Works No. 1605 "Ajax", is leaving the Isle of Wight Steam Railway having been deemed surplus to requirements at the railway and has found a new home on the UK mainland, as the locomotive has been sold to the Northampton & Lamport Railway at Northampton in Northamptonshire. The locomotive is moving to its new home where it will be overhauled and put back into steam again for use on the two-mile line there.

One of the most popular preserved steam locomotives in the United States of America, former Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad Class J3a Greenbrier 4-8-4 No. 614, is set to be returned to steam again as she has been sold to the RJD America LLC who have purchased the legendary Chesapeake & Ohio steam locomotive from the American Freedom Train Foundation, Inc. No. 614 is to be moved to its new home at the Strasburg Railroad in the state of Pennsylvania, where it will undergo a full 1472-day Overhaul which will be carried out by Strasburg Railroad Mechanical Services, with the aim of restoring both the locomotive and its auxiliary tender to high operational standards. The comprehensive restoration at Strasburg Railroad Mechanical Services in Strasburg, Pennsylvania, will ensure the locomotive and its auxiliary tender not only meet contemporary operational and safety standards for North American mainline running but also retain their historical authenticity.

@Joe Turner, the overhaul on No. 3803 will likely take two years or so depending on how the locomotive is as most overhauls take time and can not be rushed.

Bought in 1916 by the Garden City Sugar and Land Company. In 1946, the company bought a diesel, but the engineers felt it was under powered. So they used “Two Bits” for 6 more years until it was worn out. It was retired in 1952. It hauled sugar beets to the sugar factory.

44 is stored at the Colorado Railroad museum, dismantled. The parts are scattered around. The boiler and wheels are in sidings, and the cab is past the tracks.

This is in fact ex BASF 60 II ex 59 and Hohenzollern 4267. At an unknown time locos 59 and 60 swapped numbers. This locomotive was sold in October 2024 and is now located in Aschersleben, Germany

I attended the 2024 Ederville train and tractor show and spoke to the engineer of this engine. Boiler pressure should be 180psi and driver diameter is 18inches.

The unique British Railways Standard 8P Class Pacific No. 71000 "Duke of Gloucester", is now in the last stages of its overhaul at Tyseley Locomotive Works and is due to be moved to the Severn Valley Railway in late November or early December 2024 to begin testing and running in trials over the winter before moving to its new home at LNWR Heritage at Crewe, where it will be operated on the mainline with Locomotive Services Ltd as well as visits to other preserved railways around the UK from 2025.

Following the completion of overhaul of ex CEGB Newport Peckett built 0-4-0ST Works No. 2147 "Uskmouth No. 1", the former Devonport Dockyard Andrew Barclay built 0-4-0ST (Works No. 2221) No. 2, is the next small steam locomotive at the Dean Forest Railway to undergo a much needed overhaul having been in storage for 30 years. The locomotive was moved into the main workshops at Norchard on the 23rd of September 2024.

The sole surviving ex Caledonian Railway 439 Class 0-4-4T No. 55189 (419), is visiting the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway for the first time for a special photo charter over the weekend of the 9th and 10th of November 2024, to recreate a near classic Scottish Highland branch line scene from the 1950s and early 1960s.

With the overhaul and rebuild of ex GWR Manor Class 4-6-0 No. 7802 "Bradley Manor", now in its final stages and is soon to return home to the Severn Valley Railway this winter, where will become the Erlestoke Manor Fund’s resident locomotive on the Severn Valley Railway upon its return to service in early 2025.

Having been on hire to the West Somerset Railway for the 2024 season, ex GWR Manor Class 4-6-0 No. 7812 "Erlestoke Manor", has returned home to the Severn Valley Railway for the winter. Where she will be working their Santa Specials over the Christmas season. No. 7812 will remain at the Severn Valley Railway until the Spring of 2025 when she will return on hire to the West Somerset Railway from May 2025 until the end of 2027.

The ex Royal Ordnance Factory Peckett Yorktown Class built 0-4-0ST Works No. 2012 "Teddy", is now in the final stages of its overhaul as following a change of premises, work has been focussed on the boiler with Matt at Heritage Engineers Ltd carrying out the work. The boiler inspector is due soon to carry out a ‘mid-work’ inspection. When this has been completed, Teddy’s front tube plate can be riveted back on. The clack pad has also been riveted on, this was previously fixed in place by castellated nuts. Early plans indicate that an out-of-frame steam test can take place before the end of the year and this can be dispatched to Shackerstone (The Battlefield Line) in 2025. This all should mean that "Teddy" is back in steam early in 2025.

The Wilbrighton Wagon Works 2015 built 0-4-0VB No. 3 "Fernilee", has been withdrawn from service following the end of its 10 boiler ticket for overhaul which will get underway in the workshops at Bressingham Steam Museum this winter.
