Now located back home at Hopetown in Darlington, and after doing its part for Railway 200 this year, the 1975 built working replica of "Locomotion No. 1", is on display for the Christmas season. Afterwords it will be moved to the Whessoe Road Engine Shed for the winter to be ready to work steam rides at Hopetown and the heritage railway circuit for 2026.

The 1975 built working replica of "Locomotion No. 1", is visiting the North Yorkshire Moors Railway for the first time with its replica train of new Chaldron waggons and carriage "Experimant" for a series of public trips along the line between Pickering Station to the New Bridge Level Crossing from the 25th of October to the 9th of November 2025.

Having completed its Railway 200 journey along the route of the Stockton and Darlington Railway and its part in the Railway 200 celebrations of 2025 to mark 200 years of the opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway, the 1975 built working replica of "Locomotion No. 1", has now returned to Hopetown, Darlington where it will be located and based in the Whessoe Road Engine Shed.

Following the end of the Railway 200 celebrations of 2025 to mark 200 years of the opening of the Stockton and Darlingto Railway and the modern railway that we know and use today the 1975 built working replica of "Locomotion No. 1", will return to Hopetown, Darlington where it will be located and based in the Whessoe Road Engine Shed there and from 2026 will be operating steam rides for members of the public on steam days there with other locomotives.

Details of the re-run of the first public train on the route of the Stockton and Darlington Railway using the 1975 built working replica of "Locomotion No. 1", 200 years on as part of Railway 200 have been revealed. The event will take place over three days from the 26th to 28th of September 2025, where on the 26th, "Locomotion No. 1" and its replica train of new Chaldron waggons and carriage "Experimant" will travel from the Locomotion Museum at Shildon to the Hopetown heritage site at Darlington. Then on the 27th of September "Locomotion No. 1" and its train will operate around Darlington where it will cross the Skerne Bridge as depicted in paintings of the opening day and brought to the attention of more modern aaudiences by appearing on a £5 note. Then finally on the 28th of September "Locomotion No. 1" and its train will travel from Darlington to Stockton as the climax to Railway 200. The 1975 built working replica of "Locomotion No. 1", is currently located at the Weardale Railway at Wolsingham in Durham, where it has been undergoing loaded test runs with its new replica train of new Chaldron waggons and carriage "Experimant" in readiness for the mainline and the three days of demonstration runs between Shildon, Darlington and Stockton from the 26th to 28th of September 2025.

The 1975 built working replica of "Locomotion No. 1", has undergone a steam test at Locomotive Maintenance Services at Loughborough in Leicestershire where it is currently at in readiness to begin testing and running in trials at the Great Central Railway before its big part in the Railway 200 celebrations this year.

The status of the 1975 built working replica of "Locomotion No. 1", is operational as the replica Stephenson locomotive is being moved to the Great Central Railway for testing and running-in trials as part of the plans to certify it to run on the mainline for the Railway 200 celebrations this year. "Locomotion No. 1" will be at the Great Central Railway from mid-January until the end of February 2025. Afterwords the locomotive and its new replica train of new Chaldron waggons and carriage "Experimant" will then move to the Weardale Railway at Wolsingham in Durham for further testing and trials to measure the locomotive’s water, coal and oil consumption. Which those will determine how its three days of demonstration runs between Shildon, Darlington and Stockton from the 26th to 28th of September 2025, will be pathed to accommodate stops for refuelling and checks of bearings during those special runs then.

The overhaul on the 1975 built working replica of "Locomotion No. 1", has now been completed by Locomotive Maintenance Services at Loughborough and is now operational but yet to be tested and has just returned home to Hopetown Museum where it will be on display over the Christmas season with some the replica Stockton and Darlington Railway rolling stock which has been built to mainline standards in rediness for the Railway 200 celebrations in 2025 marking 200 years of opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway. The replica "Locomotion No. 1", will be on display in the Carriage Works at Hopetown from 26th of November to the 31st of December 2024, afterwhich it will undergo testing in the New Year as for part of the celebrations in 2025, it is planned for the replica "Locomotion No. 1", to run on the mainline along part of the orignal route of the Stockton and Darlington Railway from Shildon via Darlington to Stockton in September 2025 which will be a national event then.

The ownership of the 1975 built working replica of "Locomotion No. 1 is being transferred to Darlington Borough Council. As agreement had been reached with Beamish Museum to transfer the ownership of the Replica locomotive to Darlington Borough Council which was completed in April 2021. Since it was built for the e 150th Anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway in 1975 the working replica of "Locomotion No. 1 has worked for a significant period of time since 1975 and has visited a number of preserved railways and museums around the UK and has even visited Japan and the United States of America for big railway shows and events through its operational career. It is now planned to have the locomotive fully overhauled back into working order and up to modern day standards to enable it to run on the rail network as part of the bicentenary celebrations of the Stockton and Darlington Railway in 2025.

The 1975 built working replica of "Locomotion No. 1 which was built for the 150th anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway in 1975 is being loaned too the Head of Steam museum in Darlington for a few years following a deal with its owners the Beamish Open air museum. The replica needs restoration but there is the tantalizing prospect that it will be back in steam on September 27, 2025, for the bicentenary celebrations of the Stockton and Darlington Railway then.

This replica was built for the 150th anniversary of the Stockton and Darlington Railway in 1975. It has travelled around to visit various exhibitions and has appeared in various TV programmes about early railway history. Usually kept at the North of England Open Air Museum at Beamish, County Durham. The original loco can be seen at the North Road Museum in Darlington.
