BDZ 0-8-0T No. 489.60 (1142)Posted by: Dale W Fické on Dec 7, 2022 @ 06:12:37
It turns out that the locomotive was only built to the Brigadelok design, not for tha latter whose last lok was No. HF 1140. This is actually one of four locomotives built by Smoschewer, Breslau (now Wroclaw) who never previously constructed Brigadeloks. The four locomotives with the serial numbers 775 to 778 were the last brigade locomotives built in 1925. The Bulgarian State Railways used the existing brigade locomotives for the first allocation of numbers, with the last HF number being 1140. Accordingly, the four new locomotives were assigned the numbers 1141 to 1144 Without the preceeding HF being relevant) though the railway line on the Black Sea was built primarily for the transport of salt, it was mainly used for passenger traffic when it was completed. pIn the summer of 2014, the locomotive was transferred to the Bulgarian town of Barakovo in the Rila Mountains, where it is intended as a monument to commemorate the 600 mm industrial railway there.

BDZ (Heeresfeldbahn) 0-8-0T No. 485.60 (HF1138)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Dec 7, 2022 @ 05:12:04
Assigned the HFB number 1138 by the German Heeresfeldbahn. As early as 1919 it came into the inventory of the Bulgarian State Railways, which classified it as BDŽ 1138.In 1936 she was given the number BDŽ identity of "485.60 It is not yet known on which routes the locomotive was used. The locomotive was used in the Rila Mountains from 1942 together with two other brigade locomotives (Henschel 14255 and Henschel 15052). During the Second World War, a small hydroelectric power station was built there not far from a monastery under the direction of a German engineer. A separate field railway was built for the transport of materials. After the completion of the construction work, the light railway served as a means of transport for visitors to the monastery until the late 1960s due to the adverse road conditions. The railway was then shut down and the locomotives parked. In 2000, a German private individual acquired one of the three decommissioned brigade locomotives (Henschel 16020) and had it transported to the railway workshop in Klostermansfeld for refurbishment. The completion of the locomotive, which was planned for 2001, could not be kept due to the desolate condition after years of storage in the open air. After the end of the refurbishment in 2002, the locomotive was transported to the Prora Railway Museum for winter storage. Operations on the rebuilt 1.5 km long MPSB section from Schwichtenberg to Uhlenhorst were originally planned from 2003, but this did not happen. In December 2004, the locomotive was finally transported to the Berlin Park Railway, but it could not be commissioned due to technical problems; it remained with a few test drives. In August 2010, the locomotive was transported back to Klostermansfeld for rework on the running gear, among At the end of 2011, the locomotive returned to Berlin. In 2012, the last adjustment work was carried out on the locomotive, so that on December 7th, 2012 the locomotive could be accepted by the state railway supervisory authority and the acceptance runs could be completed without defects. The locomotive was then used for the first time in official passenger service in front of the park railway St. Nicholas processions.

BDZ (Heeresfeldbahn) 0-8-0T No. 479.60 (HF1130)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Dec 6, 2022 @ 12:12:21
Originally supplied to the Heeresfeldbahn at their Reserve in Berlin, prior to being despatched to Bulgaria in 1918, until 1964, the locomotive numbered B 479.60 was in use on the 67 km long Kaspican railway, which was used to develop rural areas and to transport wheat and wood. Originally there was a 110 km long standard gauge line planned from Kaspican to Silistra on the Danube, which was under Bulgarian control from 1916 to 1919. Instead, the 600 mm narrow-gauge railway was built, which in 1946 included twelve brigade locomotives. In the 1960s, the railways lost increasing importance due to the increasing traffic, so that it was discontinued in 1964. BDŽ 479.60, together with some sister locomotives, then got to the 9.8 km long General Todorov - Petric narrow-gauge railway, on which nine brigade locomotives were in use. On the route with many inclines, the trains sometimes had to be transported with a pilot locomotive in front, so that four locomotives were always under steam at the same time. In 1969, operations were also discontinued here and the line dismantled, but BDŽ 479.60 remained as a monument in Radomir until 2002 when it went on to be plinthed in Sofia.

Sena Sugar Estates (Heeresfeldbahn) 0-8-0T No. 47 (HF913)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Dec 4, 2022 @ 13:12:02
Delivered to the Heeresfeldbahn Depot 1, Berlin as No. HF 913. When the Sena Sugar Estate, was looking for locomotives for its plantations in the 1920s, the choice fell on the brigade locomotive, which was available in large numbers. So the HF 913 was shipped to Mozambique together with other brigade locomotives. The cab was also converted to the tropical version and the boiler to wood firing. HF 913 arrived at the Luabo plantation, where it was assigned road number 6. After being used in front of the sugar cane trains for many years, she was decommissioned like her other Mozambique sisters and has been waiting for better times ever since. This came in 1998, when an English rail enthusiast bought the brigade locomotives parked in Mozambique and had them shipped to England. After their arrival a number were sold to private individuals or clubs. A member of the West Lancashire Light Railway bought the HF 913. It has been stripped down for refurbishment and is currently awaiting boiler repairs. During the refurbishment, the locomotive is to be restored to the condition it was in when it was delivered in 1916, which will require, among other things, a completely new cab. No. 47 is the identity given by the WLLR.
