The loco certainly was coal fired in CEGB service. However, I am certain that at some point I read that it had been converted to oil firing when in the USA. I spent quite of lot of time trying to confirm this last night with little success apart from an old photo of the loco in operation on the Boyne City Railroad on a YouTube video. The photo is from the rear of the loco and above and it shows a black square tank in the bunker. No sign of coal. In the current state of the loco, seen on more recent videos, the cab and bunker are so stripped of parts that it could have been powered by anything. With respect, I will leave it as oil on the basis of the photo mentioned above.

Built by Robert Stephenson & Hawthorns at their Darlington works, it worked at Meaford Power Station of the Central Electricity Generating Board in Staffordshire. A sister loco, Meaford No. 1 survives on the North Tyneside Railway The CEGB seems to have a liking for the design as it was used at a number of power stations and a few more survive in preservation it he UK.

Had a nice chat with James Bregant, the President of the Louisville Chapter of the NRHS, and he assured me that the locomotive is still in Louisville, outside a warehouse, and visible from Amtrak as you pass through.

He refered me to another gentleman, whom I've not yet been able to reach who is familiar with the ownership and condition of the locomotive. As soon as I reach this guy, I'll post what information I get here, as a note.

Hope this helps.

I've been trying to find information on this locomotive for three years without the least bit of headway. I've actually become to doubt that this locomtive is actually even in Louisville becuase in the last three years there hasn't been any evidence to suggest it is there except rumors.

There hasn't been a picture, a release by the people who are supposedly restoring this engine, a location given other than a warehouse somewhere along the ohio bank, heck I haven't even been able to find anyone who has seen or has the remotest connection to this engine.

Wes Barris reports this locomotive in Louisville, KY. We have not, as yet, been able to find further information. Database updated. Also reflecting its railroad of origin rather than the Boyne City tourist railroad.
