Chiriqui Land Co. 2-6-0 No. 46Posted by: Nate on Aug 19, 2024 @ 16:08:44
46 has not been under restoration for about 10 years this is as a result the two main diesel locomotives unexpectedly going out of service in 2013 and during one of the busiest weekends of 2014 respectively. The funds used for the expensive rebuild to fix one of them as well as covid used up all of our restoration funds. At this time we are focusing on restoring more revenue earning cars, such as the CNJ caboose we are currently restoring, so that we can run longer trains during special events. This will bring in more money so we can both continue to preserve our extensive collection AND eventually return one or more of our steam locomotives to service. That is to say that we are most definitely interested in having operating steam on our property, but it is not something we have the funds to do at this time. Also, the current boiler is indeed not the original and was intended to replace the original but is not in useable shape in its current state.

East Tennessee & Western North Carolina RR 4-6-0 No. 12Posted by: Jonah Snyder on Aug 19, 2024 @ 15:08:01
Locomotive is currently down for overhaul. It was recently discovered that several spots on the locomotive’s firebox was too thin for the boiler to be operated safely. Hope is to have the locomotive back next year.

A1 Steam Locomotive Trust (LNER design) 4-6-2 No. 60163 'Tornado'Posted by: Russell Newman on Aug 19, 2024 @ 15:08:37
Sadly the visit of the famous new-build LNER (Peppercorn designed) A1 Class Pacific 4-6-2 No. 60163 "Tornado", to the Nene Valley Railway has been postboned again until the October half term due to her final steam tests and running-in trials not yet completed in time for her bank holiday weekend visit. Instead No. 60163 will be tested at the Great Central Railway where test running can get underway, including running at up to 60mph. After a short period of running in and testing at the Great Central Railway, the locomotive will then move to Tyseley Locomotive Works as a base for mainline testing in the first half of September 2024.

We usually regard the frames as carrying the identity of the locomotive, so Niles Canyon Railway is the location. Boilers often go away for repair these days, but thanks for your information.

Status should be "stored". Location should be "JR East Morioka Depot". At the end of the 2023 season the "SL Ginga" excursions came to an abrupt end citing mechanical issues with the converted DMUs used as coaches (these were promptly scrapped). The locomotive has a boiler ticket until Feb 2025. Whether JR East will authorize the next 8 year overhaul remains to be seen.

It could be said that this locomotive is in two places at once. While the running gear and frame are at the Niles Canyon Railway Rail Yard in Brightside, California, the boiler is undergoing restoration in Antonio, Colorado.
