2479 was recently sent to the Niles Canyon Railroad. It was moved there on August 25th, 2022. It is said that the engine could be returning to steam in the coming years.

The firemans side steam cylinder sleeve is cracked and was recently pulled (aug 2009) for measurements for fabrication. the actual cylinder is fine. the fair grounds did request that the CTRC move the locomotive as it was in the center of a large field that was a campground. They even assisted by pouring slabs for the shop and other details. The work is now progressing on the side near monterey road.

I heard that this locomotive was moved to a new location on the Grounds, and has a cracked cylinder cage.

2479 had its trucks and drivers installed at the end of Oct 2009. During restoration they found that the locomotive was nearly worn completely out, prolonging its refurbishment. There is a newer photo in its Wikipedia entry showing it much closer to completion.

The X-mas '04 would apply to SP 2467, not 2479. 2479 has a long way to go, and unfortunately, CTRC will not be able to build at the fairgrounds as the county apparently doesn't appreciate what the group wants to do to preserve San Jose area railroad history! A new site is being sought out. The 2467 will not be running by X-mas '04; I'm not sure about 2472.

This locomotive is under restoration by volunteers of California Trolley and Railroad Corporation. It is planned to become the centerpiece of a railroad museum in Santa Clara County featuring other railroad artifacts including a relocated 6 stall roundhouse and turntable Presently, CTRC is working with local entities to identify a suitable location for the project. For now, the lcomotive restoration continues at the Santa Clara County fairgrounds.
