We usually regard the frames as carrying the identity of the locomotive, so Niles Canyon Railway is the location. Boilers often go away for repair these days, but thanks for your information.

It could be said that this locomotive is in two places at once. While the running gear and frame are at the Niles Canyon Railway Rail Yard in Brightside, California, the boiler is undergoing restoration in Antonio, Colorado.

1744 boiler is back in Alamosa, CO with no work done to it while it was away.

Engine is out of service, with ex-Grand Canyon #18 handling excursions.

1744 is now operated on weekends from Alamosa, CO, to La Veta, CO. Starting in 2008 she will be running the daily excursion to La Veta.

Recently, the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad bought the 1744. It has been delivered to Alamosa, Colorado, and will make it's debut on the line during Memorial Day weekend.

Southern Pacific No. 1744 is a Mogul class  M-6 built by Baldwin Locomotive Works. The locomotive is currently stored in Belle Chasse, and has access to interchange among the major carries in New Orleans. No.1744 has logged only 93 days of service under FRA sec.230.17, a 1472 service day inspection of the entire boiler. SP 1744 is for sale.
