KantoTetsudo 0-6-0T No. 3Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Mar 8, 2022 @ 03:03:56
Thanks to both Brian and ILFORD for comments. I previously checked a list of extant locomotives for Maffei and find only two, both attributed to South Africa Railways of 1067mm or 3’, during it’s existence up to 1930. The note supplied by Brian seems more likely as I have O&K 10775 supplied through Otto Reimers & Co., Tokyo to Kawasaki Seitetso of Japan (no prefecture) and when withdrawn going to Narashino Primary School, Kami-ga-ura (no actual dates given) and therefore our files could in fact be duplicated if this is the same locomotive, but clearly still Not Krauss-Maffei. I may come across further information whilst working through more builder’s! Sorry for now ILFORD, but thanks for your info.

VR (Helsingfors - St Petersburg Railway) 0-6-0 No. 21Posted by: Brian Garvin on Mar 7, 2022 @ 10:03:58
Having looked at several of the Finnish items and referring to the Stenvall book which by the way is in Finnish and German The term Valtionrautatiet is translated as Finnish Railways not Finnish State Railways but VR came to stand for the latter later. So the loco is VR 21 which was withdrawn in 1926 and preserved.

VR 2-6-4T No. 489(43?)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Mar 7, 2022 @ 07:03:35
Delivered prior to the advent of VR, No. 43 was probably the running number for the railway who owned the locomotive before 1917.

VR 2-6-4T No. 456Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Mar 7, 2022 @ 07:03:25
Originally built for a preceding railway (?) that only became VR in 1917, so probably had former running number ?

This was originally built for the Helsingors - St Petersburg Railway (HSPR) whose No. 9 it is. I have no record of it operating on VR, or have a number.

VR 2-8-0 No. 419Posted by: DalevW Fickés on Mar 7, 2022 @ 05:03:20
Again this was NOT originally VR and so it may have had a preceding number as well as railway ?

VR 2-8-0 No. 407Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Mar 7, 2022 @ 05:03:22
Another locomotive that was not originally VR and could have had a different railway running number ?

VR 4-6-0 No. 554Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Mar 7, 2022 @ 05:03:53
Again this was built shortly before the formation of VR so could well have received a different running number for it’s receiving railway ?

VR 4-6-0 No. 497Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Mar 7, 2022 @ 05:03:02
Again, this locomotive was actually built prior to the formation of VR so it probably had a different running number for a different railway when built ?
