KantoTetsudo 0-6-0T No. 3Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Mar 9, 2022 @ 04:03:53
I would agree with Brian, having originally ‘missed’ the location of this locomotive during my initial perusal, that it could well be Krauss No. 3332, the date of 1896 is also correct; not Maffei (or indeed K-M). I have it down as Kiu-Schiu Railway No. 44, then Kanto Railway No. 1412 and was on display (wherever) by 1990. If consensus can be attained perhaps this file can be merged with No. 3332 adjusting the date slightly ? I will consult my Japanese map, purchased whilst in Japan to ascertain the Prefecture of Mibu, Tochigi though that information is probably several decades old.

Thinking about the VR abbreviation I entered Valtion into Google translate and it means state. So VR has always stood for state railways even when the country came under Russia. So the first railways built were state railways.

Contrary to what has been published before the locomotive was built for the Lohjan to Sahkorautatie where it was no. 2. But it was too heavy for the line and was sold in 1917 to the Haviala Forest Railway where it worked until the line closed in 1955. It then went on display in Tampere but in 1988 it went to Minkiö from where it has now gone back to Tampere back on display.
