The locomotive was, prior to 1925 when elevated to the DRB as No. 99 633 was Württembergische Staatsbahn No. 43. It succeeded into the DB during 1949 in its DRB identity, later as No. 099 633- and worked until 1969, going the following year to the DGEG, being in store 1973-1982 in Heilbronn., then at the Jagsttal Museumbahn until 1983. DB (kkStB) 0-6-0WT No. 2 (89.7531)Posted by: Dale W Fickes on Jul 7, 2022 @ 03:07:14
This was originally, to my understanding, Braunschweigische Landeseisenbahn RHUEDEN 13 prior to 1938 when it was re-designated DRB No. 89 7531, working until early 1947. It then joined the new DB as a Werklok at Raw Schwerte, firstly as No. 3, then as No. 6003 later being designated No. 089 003-8 in 1968 whilst stored. It was first preserved during 1974 at nearby Hannover-Linden the, in 1975 privately for the DDM followeded, in 1977, in Reimboldshausen bei Kirchheim/Hessen in its DB identity. In 1998 it went to the Niederlausizer Museums Railway at Finsterwalde as their No. 2 but only a year later it went to the SEH at Heilbronn, where it was in 2006. I have no record of it belonging to the kkStB although, by date, this is possible ?

16 just got test fired earlier this past week or so. It shouldn’t be long before the cab, compressors, lagging jacketing, hydrostatic lubricator fastening bolts, running gear eccentrics, crank, connecting rods, warning bell, sand domes, steam dome cover, etc are added. It shouldn’t be long when she operates under her own power.

The nearly completed ex GWR King Class 4-6-0 No. 6024 "King Edward I" was unvailed to members of the the 6024 preservation society and Locomotive Services Group during their AGM at Minehead on the 2nd of July 2022. The overhaul and rebuild on No. 6024 has changed the look of the locomotive as she has brand new outside slim line cylinders fitted along with a narrower buffer beam and a reduce in hight more of the chimney, safty valve cover, whistles and cab which will give the No. 6024 more route availability on Network Rail’s mainlines around the UK more. No. 6024 is now in the final stages of her overhaul and rebuild which should be completed during the summer of 2022.

Port Elizabeth Harbour Board 2-6-0T No. 'Hunslet'Posted by: Eddie Wearing on Jul 3, 2022 @ 21:07:54
In 2021 Timeslive broke a story on the fate of ESKOM’s historic steam locomotives. Back in 2011, ESKOM retrieved their locomotives from SANRASM. The locomotives were dumped on the ground in the open in a remote part of the Rosherville complex where they have lay for 10 years or more. The historic 1879 built KITSON was taken out of the yard in 2016, repainted and plinthed in the Rosherville complex and appears secure but the others make quite a woeful sight.

London & North Eastern Railway 4-6-2 No. 60022 (22) (4468) 'Mallard'Posted by: Russell Newman on Jul 3, 2022 @ 11:07:33
The most famous of the LNER A4 Pacific’s is of course No. 4468 "Mallard" the worlds fastest steam locomotive. As it was on the 3rd of July 1938 that she entered both the record books and the history books when she was only 5 months old, she set off from Grantham on a brake test train that had a dynamometer car among the formation of six coaches and at the hands of driver Joseph Duddington (a man renowned within the LNER for taking calculated risks) and fireman Thomas Bray. On that run "Mallard" charged down Stoke Bank on the East Coast Mainline where she reached the speed of a 126mph, a world record for steam locomotives that still stands to this day.

Her choice of being the record holder was down to being to one of a few of the A4 class that were built with a double chimney and double Kylchap blastpipe, which made for improved draughting and better exhaust flow at speed. The record run damaged the locomotive as she had to be stopped at Peterborough, but at least the world speed record was in hand. After her world speed record run "Mallard" continued in service with the LNER and British Railways until 1962 when she was withdrawn from service for preservation as part of the National collection of locomotives.

She was restored for display by Doncaster works in the LNER Garter Blue livery with the streamline side valances when she broke the world speed record, first going on display in the then Clapham Transport Museum and then from 1975 in the National Railway Museum in York. In the 1980s with the 50th anniversary of her world speed record in 1988 No. 4468 was restored to operational order for a limited number (25 steamings) of runs on the mainline including some specials between York and Scarborough in July 1986 and a couple of runs between York and Harrogate and Leeds around Easter 1987. In 1988 round the 50th anniversary "Mallard" worked special railtours along part of the famous East Coast Mainline round Doncaster and York and to Scarborough as well as few trips over the Settle and Carlisle line. Her final steaming was in August 1988 on a last run over the Settle and Carlisle line, after this she was withdrawn from service and returned to be on display in the National Railway Museum. She still can be moved on the mainline, hauled by other locomotives as in the 1990s, 2000s and 2010s "Mallard" has visited her birth town of Doncaster for several open days, Locomotion - National Railway Museum at Shildon in Durham and has also visited Barrow Hill Roundhouse in Derbyshire for several Gala events there.

In 2013 No. 4468 "Mallard" celebrated 75 years since achieving the world speed record and to mark this the National Railway Museum put on the Great Gathering which saw all six surviving LNER A4 locos together for the first time since the end of steam in the UK in the 1960s. T he locos involved were No. 60008 "Dwight D Eisenhower", temporarily repatriated from the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay, Wisconsin in the United States of America, No. 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley", No. 60009 "Union of South Africa", No. 4464 "Bittern", No. 4489 "Dominion of Canada" which was temporarily repatriated from Exporail, the Canadian Railway Museum in Montreal, Canada and of course No. 4468 "Mallard" Since then "Mallard" has continued to be on static display in the National Railway Museum in York, whether the locomotive will steam again is something that only time will tell.
