From 1988 to 1990, the locomotive was converted into a steam storage locomotive in the workshop of the museum in Darmstadt-Kranichstein. Since then, it has been running a short distance past the museum on certain days using third-party steam. The locomotive is labeled "Eschenau"

Prior to 1925 this was Württembergische Staatsbahn ESCHENAU 979 that was then nominated as DRG No. 89 312 but the same year actually went to the Teuringertalbahn (TTB) at Friedrichsfen as No. 1. It returned to Esslingen as Works locomotive, being withdrawn in 1962 and was placed on display here in 1964; stored in the town from 1975 and displayed from 1977 at the Bf. In 1981 it went to the Technik & Arbeit Museum, Mannheim.
