The ex Great Western Railway Hall Class 4-6-0 No. 5952 "Cogan Hall", maybe facing an uncertain future as plans for its restoration by the Betton Grange Society Ltd now looks unlikely owing to both the age profile of the society and the amont of work needed in raising the funds necessary to complete its restoration. So for now No. 5952 remains in storage around the turntable at Tyseley Locomotive Works until its future is decided??

The restoration of ex GWR Large Prairie 2-6-2T No. 4121, from Barry Scrapyard condition is quietly continuing at Tyseley Locomotive Works still as its owner is restoring it to working order.

The overhaul on the former Walsall Gas Works, Sentinel built 4wVBGT Works No. 9632, has now been completed and the locomotive is now operational and was steamed for the first time after amny years during the Chasewater Railway’s recent Coal Train Event.

The overhaul and conversion to oil firing of ex Cameroon Development Corporation Hunslet built 0-4-2PT (Works No. 3756) No. 1 "Tamar", has now been completed and the locomotive is now operational and will be launched into traffic at the Statfold Barn Railway during their upcoming ‘Summer Spectacle of Steam Weekend’ on the 6th & 7th June 2026.

Two points. The locomotive was never DB. It started out as a DRB locomotive. One must be careful about gauges. Many SZD Kriegloks were kept as standard gauge locomotives ready for a westward invasion. Certainly many of those at Kovel and Rava Russkaya were standard gauge and there were lines from those places that went into Poland.

after much time sitting outdoors and being damaged by the elements, the staff have raised some donations and a much needed cosmetic restoration is underway. This project is probably going to take a very long time and require a large sum of money to complete.

The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust took delivery of a full size 3D-printed cambox for new-build (LNER Design) P2 Class 2-8-2 No. 2007 "Prince of Wales", for test fitting to the Monobloc cylinder before the real cambox is made. From the test fitting it is hoped that the cambox can be made by this winter. When completed from its overhaul the ex United States Army Transportaion Corps and Southern Railway S100 USA Class 0-6-0T No. 30065 "Maunsell", will be turned out in British Railways Malachite Green livery carrying its departmental number No. DS237 when it enters service at the Kent & East Sussex Railway this summer.

Construction of the new-build GWR 3800 ‘County’ Class 4-4-0 No. 3840 "County of Montgomery", is progressing on at Tyseley Locomotive Works as the cab, running plates and wheel splashers have been fitted in place. The hope is that the cylinders and all the other front-end parts will be delivered for assembly by the end of the summer. Meanwhile during April saw the coupling and connecting rods forged from billet; they now only requiring machining.

When was this engine at Furuvik? I have been there two times and never saw it there. 1138 was scrapped in 1999 but its boiler is currently stored for future use.

The fate of ex LMS Black Five 4-6-0 No. 45491, is at the moment all up in the air in limbo as the locomotive was up for sale by the Great Central Railway, but its owner has put the locomotive in arbitration which a judgment is expected in late May or early June 2026. In the meantime No. 45491 is in storage in the shed at Swithland sidings until its situation gets sorted.

The restoration of the ex GWR Large Prairie 2-6-2T No. 4150, from Barry Scrapyard condition is now in its fianl stages of completion at the Severn Valley Railway with the locomotive expected to steam very soon. No. 4150 is the last steam locomotive to be restored from Dai Woodham Scrapyard at the Severn Valley Railway when completed.

Originally built as oil fired, the Bure Valley Railway’s 1997 Winson Engineering built 2-6-2T No. 8 "John of Gaunt", is being converted back to being oil fired again. Taken with the increasingly hot summer periods and increased fire risk the Bure Valley Railway has taken the decision made to allow No. 8 burn oil again. Work is already underway in the workshops at Aylsham to make a new oil tank. The grate and controls from the original system will be used. This will allow year round steam operation at the railway without the fire risk to the lineside.

The newly overhauled ex LMS Black Five 4-6-0 No. 45110, will be staying on at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway for a futher six months following an agreement between them and West Coast Railway Company which will allow the locomotive to be run-in before returning to the mainline.
