The ex War Department rebuilt Hunslet Austerity 0-6-0 tender conversion No. 2890 "Douglas" will be staying on at the Spa Valley Railway for another year to work the 2023 season there.

Having finshed her festive dutys at the Mid Hants Railway over the Christmas and New Year, New-re-build GWR Saint Class 4-6-0 No. 2999 "Lady of Legend" is returning home to Didcot Railway Centre for the winter and for her winter maintenance to be ready for the 2023 season both at Didcot and out on the heritage railway circuit.

This was supplied to British Sino Lt., Bankok, Thailand in no recorded identity that later went to Sri Mararcha Timber Co. as their No. 12 and was here in at least 1989. It was later plinthed in Amee Museum, Pattaya, Chon Buri, Thailand where it was in 2008.

This was delivered new to L Moll, Beuuntern, München in no recorded identity. It is/was preserved in the grounds of a Elementary School in München-Sendling and was extant in 1997.

Delivered in late 1933 to the then DRG - Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft as No. 03 131, the company was renanmaed DRB - Deutsche Reichsbahn from 1937 and the locomotive found itself in the British Zone following WW2 in Bielefeld and in 1949 joined the emerging DB - Deutsche Bundesbahn in the same identity until being computerised in 01/1968 and running for a further18 months. It was stored in Bw München Hbf in 1972 and was eventually bought in 1975 by Günter Knauß, Kessvil, Switzerland for preservation at the DDM - Deutsches Dampflokomotiv-Museum, Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg, Germany, again as No. 03 131.

Deliered to a gauge of 600mm to the Victoria Milling Co., Victorias as No. 4 then renumbered 2H, in Manila.

This was delivered new to the DRG, becoming the DRB in 1937. Following WW2 it was to be found in the French occupation zone in Speyer, and served here until 1951 when it eventually joined the western zone DB, then based for a decade at two depots in Wuppertal. It was then removed from traffic and served as a stationary boiler at Bw Warburg until 1965 before going back to Raw Kassel making ready for display, first in Konstanz for fifteen years then, in late 1979 inOberbürgermeister, Freiburg followed in 1991 by a local group outside the then Bw, as photographed by myself.

One of three that survive after delivery in 610mm gauge to the SAR that, when withdrawn was sold to the Alfred County Railway at Port Shepsrone, later named the Harding Railway. It later moved to Ficksburg and was stored in 2006.

In a suprise move the ex GWR 4500 Class Small Prairie 2-6-2T No. 5539 has left the Barry Tourist Railway and has relocated to its new home at the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway at Blaenavon, Monmouthshire in South Wales. No. 5539 owned by Hugh Shipton is in the final stages of a long restoration from Barry Scrapyard condition as the main chassis along with the cab, wheels, side tanks and coal bunker are all complete and the boiler is at Flour Mill Works at Bream in Gloucestershire where work on it is nearly done.

This is Henschel & Sohn 21906/1930 that was originally delivered to SAR in 610mm gauge as their No. 18. It has been in the USA for many years, owner is Bob Butcher, located on his ranch in Texas.

Having finshed its festive dutys at the the Kent & East Sussex Railway over the Christmas and New Years season, the ex Eastmoors Steelworks Hunslet built 48150 Class 0-6-0ST No. 18 "Jessie" has returned back home at the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway and has now been withdrawn from service for her 10 year overhaul as work is underway stripping the locomotive down in readiness for her move to the the Flour Mill works at Bream in Gloucestershire where the overhaul will take place at.

The 1472-day Overhaul on the famous Union Pacific Railroad 4-6-6-4 Challenger No. 3985 is now underway in the former Rock Island Railroad workshops of the Railroading Heritage of Midwest America in Silvis, Illinois as the locomotive is being stripped down for work to begin to return her to steam again.

In a deal with the Mid Hants Railway the ex Southern Railway rebuilt Bulleid Battle of Britain Class Pacific No. 34058 "Sir Frederick Pile" will be taken into the care of Southern Locomotives Ltd. which will see the restoration from Barry Scrapyard condistion be carried by them alongside the restoration of sister Bulleid Light Pacific West Country Class No. No. 34010 "Sidmouth". No. 34058 will be moved to Southern Locomotive Ltd’s open-air restoration site at Sellindge in Kent where work will get underway on the frames of the locomotive as they will be needle-gunned and painted. Then in 2024 both No. 34058 and No. 34010 will then be moved to Southern Locomotive Ltd’s workshop at Herston next to the Swanage Railway for full restoration work there. Already parts for No. 34058 have been found and made and a good start has been made with the restoration at the Mid Hants Railway and it is hoped that "Sir Frederick Pile" will be in steam within the next five years.

The ex Southern Railway Bulleid Battle of Britain Class Light Pacific No. 34072 "257 Squadron" will be doing a first in presvation this year in 2023 as the locomotive will be the very first Bulleid Light Pacific to visit the Kent & East Sussex Railway. No. 34072 will visit the Kent & East Sussex from the end of March until late May 2023, which No. 34072 will take part in a number of special events during her visit then.

The BR Standard 4MT 2-6-4T No. 80097 is still under repairs following its boiler tube failure but work is progressing as replacement of the large flue tubes are underway and it is hoped that No. 80097 will be back in service at the East Lancashire Railway in the spring of 2023 subject to fundrising as the Bury Stantard 4 Group have a appeal still open for the repairs which details are on their website.

The Hunslet built ex LMS Jinty 0-6-0T No. 47298 is due to returned to service this year in 2023 at the East Lancashire Railway following repairs carried out to cure its hot axlebox issue which happerd its return to steam following overhaul. No. 47298 is expected to be in service at the start of the 2023 season when the East Lancashire Railway reopens to the public from the 11th of March 2023.

The ex LMS Jinty 0-6-0T No. 47324 will return to steam again this year in 2023 as the locomotive is in the final stages of its overhaul at Bury. The locomotive which is owned by a group of East Lancashire Railway members has slipped back with its overhaul due to Covid.

The former Samuel Fox & Co. Yorkshire Engine Co. (Sheffield) built 0-6-0ST No. 9 (Works No. 2498) "Chislet" has undergone asbestos removal by a contractor to remove it all from the boiler, and a protective coat of paint around the boiler and the saddle tant and cab will be replaced soon and the locomotive will be returned to be on static display.

The former Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway 18inch-gauge 0-4-0ST "Wren" will be leaving the National Railway Museum in York to go on loan to the East Lancashire Railway where she will go on display in the Bury Transport Museum with sole surviving ex Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway "radial" 2-4-2T No. 1008.

The former Dinorwic Slate Quarries quarry Hunslet 0-4-0ST Works No. 779 "Holy War" is in the final stages of overhaul as its boiler has been repaired and is ready for hydraulic testing with steam testing soon. The locomotive is expected back in service at the Bala Lake Railway again in 2023.

The overhaul of ex Dinorwic Slate Quarry Hunslet 0-4-0ST Works No. 780 "Alice" is in its final stages as she has received a brand new boiler that was built at the Severn Valley Railway’s boiler shop at Bridgnorth and is soon set to enter service at the Bala Lake Railway in 2023.

The ex Coutaulds Ltd. Sentinel built 4wVGBT Works No. 9599 "William" is currently in storage in one of the sheds at Elsecar and is the only steam locomotive on site at the closed Elsecar Heritage Railway as revival plans are taking shape.

The former Niddrie & Benhar Coal Co. Andrew Barlcay built 0-6-0ST No. 6 (Works No. 1833) "Niddrie" has made a lot of work carried out on its restoration which is nearing conpletion as the locomotive is having a new firebox thoartplate fitted along with new side plates being welded in followed by riverting and staying. The boiler has seen a new two-piece boiler barrel made and a new front tube plate. Work will then focase on the main chassis before the boiler is hydraulicly tested and steam tested.

The restoration on former Black Park Colliery Peckett built 0-4-0ST Works No. 1935 "Hornet" is reaching the final stages as repairs to its boiler have been completed and is due to undergo its hydraulic test soon and work has been concentrated on replacing all the missing copper pipework for the injectors and clack valves along with pipework for the vacuum brakes and steam heating being fitted.
