Long Bell Lumber Company 4wVBCT No. NonePosted by: Steve Frost, European Editor on Jun 8, 2026 @ 15:06:04
A member of our Forums researched this interesting self propelled rail vehicle. I have attached the video he found which I recommend as it will help understand what this astonishing machine did. It moved around to load forest products into freight cars which passed underneath it. To achieve this it had rail wheels which were raised from the track whilst it was working - a little like road/rail vehicles today that can lower rail guiding wheels to travel and work on the track, but raise them to return to the road. The main difference being that, in the 1920s, this was done mechanically rather than by the hydraulic systems of the present day.
