The locomotive was withdrawn from service two years ago following some vibration issues whilst running on the mainline which prevented her continued operation. Since then work has progressed on her axleboxes and frames, reversing and valve gear, springs and bogies among with many other things. All three of 70000s tender axles and the trailing truck axle have now returned to Crewe. This follows the replacement of the roller bearings and completion of tyre turning. I heard from the operator of the tourist railroad I volunteer at that the owner of this restaurant wants this locomotive, and the two coaches that it is with gone, and he is going to scrap them if there is no taker. He is listing them as a pack for $50,000, considering that the engine has run in recent years, and everything is in good shape. He is going to only get $7,000 for the engine if scrap comes in. So, anyone interested in a tank engine?

Victorian Railways 4-6-4 No. R766Posted by: Russell Newman on Jan 8, 2018 @ 13:01:10
After long man hours regauging R766 from the 5ft 3inch broad gauge to the 4ft 8 1/2 in standard gauge and other work the locomotive is now ready to start testing on the standard gauge mainlines of New South Wales and Victoria. But before that can happen the loco needs to be fitted with a ICE Radio unit for it to run on the mainlines out in that part of the world. So the Hunter Valley Railway Trust has started appeal to raise the funds needed to buy and fit a ICE Radio unit to R766. If funds are raised the loco could be running this year?
