The ex Southern Railway S15 Class 4-6-0 No. 825 has been passed for mainline running on Network Rail’s Esk Valley Line hauling trains between Grosmont and Whitby plus Battersby.

I reckon this might be a restorable project? What I can see of the boiler looks Ok..all the missing bits can be made, I have built a couple of complete engines from scratch...just takes a while, but, every little bit helps!

The ex South African Railways North British Locomotive Company built GMAM Class 4-8-2+2-8-4 Garratt No. 4135 has been bought for preservation by the Ceres Steam Railway and will be moving to their base at Witzenberg in the Westerncape for restoration and a return to steam for use on their mainline railtours. No. 4135 was among the final batch of GMAM Class Garratts and the very last steam locomotives that were built by the North British Locomotive Company at their Springburn works in Glasgow, Scotland under contract with Beyer Peacock from 1956 to 1958. With a Tractive Effort of 68,800lbs they were some of the most powerful steam locomotives ever constructed in the UK.

Now fully rebuilt and re gauged to 2ft 6in gauge the ex South African Railways Beyer Peacock & Co. built NGG16 Class 2-6-2+2-6-2 Garratt No. 129 was steamed for the very first time in 20 years and the first time in Australia. The locomotive is now a Class G44 Garratt and is set to enter service at the Puffing Billy Railway soon where it will replace G42 Class Garratt No. G42 which is due to be withdrawn from service for its 10 year overhaul.

It has been announced that a bid to repatriate ex South African Railways North British built Class 1A 4-8-0 No. 1301 to the UK has been launched by the North British Locomotive Preservation Group. No. 1301 is unique as its one of a number steam locomotives that was designed by David Hendrie one of the greatest steam locomotive designers of Scotland. No. has been donated to the Group by Anglo Americans Greenside Colliery and they need to raise £5000 to move the locomotive to the Wonderboom Transport Museum near Pretoria for restoration. From there it is planned to undertake mechanical work and cosmetic restoration while funds are raised for its journey home to the UK.

No. 2253 "OMAHA" was one of the 800 S160 Class 2-8-0s that did work in the UK during the Second World War between 1943 and 1944. No. 2253 was built in 1942 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia U.S.A. and shipped to the UK in 1943 and was loaned to the LNER where she operated out of Neville Hill depot in Leeds till 1944. Following the D-Day Landings she was returned to the USATC Stock and went to France where she assisted with the allied advancement that ended the Second World War. After this the locomotive ended up in Poland where she was sold to the Polish State Railway and became No. TR2003-288. She operated out in Poland till 1992 when the locomotive was bought for preservation in the UK for use at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. No. 2253 ran at the Moors line till the end of her boiler ticket in 2002. Unpopular with footplate crews there the locomotive was sold to its current owner Peter Best in 2013, and was cosmetically restored for a World War 2 display at the Locomotion Museum in Shildon. After this she was moved to Northern Steam Engineering at Stockton on Tees for a full overhaul back in to traffic again that was completed in 2019. The locomotive is based at the Dartmouth Steam Railway in Devon on a 10 year loan to them. Its livery its in is loosely based on the colours of the Canadian Pacific Railroad and was named “Omaha” in memory of D-Day veterans who landed on Omaha Beach including its owners father.

Former United States Army Transportation Corps S160 2-8-0 No. 5197 will be visiting the Wensleydale Railway for their first Polar Express events this Christmas season from November to Christmas Eve 2019.

It has been announced in Heritage Railway Magazine that the former United Glass Borrows & Sons 1906 built 0-4-0WT No. 48 "The King" is to be overhauled back to steam again as its owner is sending the locomotive to the Flour Mill Works at Bream in Gloucestershire for its overhaul.

3/1914 I believe is the correct year this locomotive was built and also it originally was owned by Beaufort County Lumber Company in North Carolina

The current owner is Republik Österreich, leased to ÖBB-Holding AG. Successively No. 80.988 with the kkStB, DÖStB, ÖStB and BBÖ 1916 - 1938, it became DRB (NOT DR) No. 57.223 and kept that identity after WW2 with both the ÖStB and ÖBB until retirement.

The current owner is Republik Österreich, leased to ÖBB-Holding AG. Initially delivered to the BBÖ as No. DT 1.07 (1935 - 1938) it became DRB No. 71.507 (1938 - 1945) followed by ÖStB (1945 - 1953). The ÖBB renumbered it 3071.07 (1953 - 1968) as it is in preservation.

The owner is Republik Österreich, leased to ÖBB-Holding AG. Originally NÖLB No. 104 (1906 - 1908) it became No. 1.05 with that company (1908 - 1922) before working for the BBÖ (1922 - 1938) as No. 184.05. The DRB identified it as No. 99.801 (1938 - 1942) then No. WL3 (1942 - 1945) before the ÖStB gave it No. 88.01 (1945 - 1953) and subsequently the ÖBB (1953 - 1968) into preservation. Not observed at Straßhof earlier this year, presumably in storage or under renovation.

The owner is Technisches Museum Wien. Also carried number 12.010 with the DRB (1938 - 1945) and ÖStB (1945 - 1953) prior to its ÖBB identity. Initially No. 12.10 with the BBÖ (1936 - 1938).

The owner is Republik Österreich, leased to ÖBB-Holding AG. Delivered to the kkStB as No. 6908 (1992 - 1905), it the became No. 69.08 successively for that company, the DÖStB; ÖStB and BBÖ (1905 - 1938). The DRB number it 97.208 (1938 - 1945) which continued with the ÖStB (1945 - 1953) and ÖBB (1953 and into preservation.

The owner is Republik Österreich, leased to ÖBB-Holding AG. Initially delivered to the ÖStB (1920 - 1923) as No. 270.025, it retained that identity with the BBÖ (1923 - 1938) before taken into DRB stock as No. 56.3423 (1938 -1945), succeeded by ÖStB (1945 - 1953). Renumbered 156.3423 by ÖBB, for whom it ran (1953 - 1968) it succeeded with this number into preservation.

The owner is Republik Österreich, leased to ÖBB-Holding AG. Initially Südbahn No. 580.03 (1912 - 1924), it carried that identity with the BBÖ (1924 - 1938) before taken over by the DRB as No. 58 902 (1938 - 1945) which it carried through with the ÖStB (1945 - 1953) and was renumbered No. 258.902 for service with the ÖBB (1953 - 1964) prior to preservation.

It has been announced that the East Somerset Railway is to take on the restoration of No. 4110 for the Dartmouth Steam Railway. Having built up a very good working relationship with them over the overhaul of No. 5239 "Goliath" for them. No. 4110 is expected to be moved to the East Somerset Railway and enter their workshops at Cranmore straight away for restoration to return to steam in January 2020. After this the locomotive will run at the East Somerset for a few years.

The former United States Army Transportation Corps S160 2-8-0 No. 6046 has returned home to the Churnet Valley Railway after its visit to the Dartmouth Steam Railway during the summer. No. 6046 will be readied to take part in the Superpower Saturday event with sister S160s No. 5197 and visiting 2253 on the 26th of October 2019.

The ex GWR Heavy freight 2-8-0 No. 3802 has now been withdrawn from service at the Llangollen Railway and has now been put up for sale.

Delivered to the NÖLB as No. Mh.6 (1908 - 1922), it also carried that identity with the BBÖ (1922 - 1938) but became No. 99 1116 with the DRB (1938 - 1945) and succeeding ÖStB (1945 - 1953). The ÖBB numbered it 399.06 from 1953. Currently in the hands of NÖVOG, at Ober Grafendorf.
