to Matt Gardner: I am actually not surprised at all. I remember hearing the boiler water treatment on the ACL was beyond inexcusably inconsistent. Extremely acidic water treatment because the water was loaded in salt from the Carolinas in the early to mid 1940s and 50s. 1031 at Spencer would need exactly the same thing because her boiler plating has worn out too thin everywhere due to the acidic water treatment in her steam days.

Black, Hawthorn & Co. took over the Gateshead works of R. Coulthard & Co. in 1865. The partners, William Black and Thomas Hawthorn concentrated their production on industrial tank locomotives. Five of these long lived, robust saddle tank locos survive in preservation, but this is the only one outside the UK. All the classic Black, Hawthorn features are there with adaptions to Swedish conditions. The wide cab structure is immediately obvious as is the spark arrester around the base of the chimney and the continental style buffers. Please take care of this treasure, Sweden.
