Canadian Pacific RR 4-6-4 No. 2816Posted by: Russell Newman on Sep 22, 2021 @ 05:09:22
Their are plans for former Canadian Pacific Railroad H1b Class Hudson 4-6-4 No. 2816 to return to the mainline of Canada and the United States of America again as the Canadian Pacific Railroad’s CEO Keith Creel appears to be trying to gain the support of steam fans for his company’s merger with Kansas City Southern Railroad. If successful the plan is to use 2816 on a special excursion train over the newly formed Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Railroad system. For this to happen 2816 will need a full overhaul, as mandated by the Federal Railroad Administration in order to run on the mainlines of both Canada and the United Stares of America again. 2816 has not ran on the mainlines since 2013 but will be a welcome site.

Southwold Railway 2-4-0T No. 3 'Blyth'Posted by: Russell Newman on Sep 19, 2021 @ 09:09:12
With the replica of 3ft gauge Southwold Railway 2-4-0T No. 3 "Blyth" is now in its final stages of construction the locomotive will soon be steam tested at North bay Engineering Services before moving to Southwold. The orginal "Blyth" No. 3 was built in 1879 by Sharp, Stewart & Co. Ltd in Manchester and was one of three 2-4-0T locomotives built for the railway and it ran for 50 years right up until the line closed in 1929 and was scrapped the same year. They were 3ft narrow gauge railways in the UK mainly in industrial places but the Southwold Railway was the only 3ft Narrow Gauge line that carried both passenger and goods in the UK. The line ran from the Suffolk seaside resort of Southwold to the Great Eastern main line at Halesworth 8¾ miles inland. Opened in 1879, it gently wound its way towards the sea through the beautiful valley of the River Blyth, with intermediate stations at Wenhaston, Blythburgh and Walberswick. After almost 50 years the line closed suddenly in April 1929. The Southwold Railway Trust are aiming to restore a part of the Southwold Railway as there are plans to a section of it from Blyth Road to Southwold Harbour along the old track bed which is still there. There is also another group at Halesworth known as the Halesworth to Southwold Narrow Gauge Railway Society aiming to restore that section of the Southwold Railway at the Halesworth end and have alreay started to lay 3ft gauge track. Its possible that the replica No. 3 "Blyth" could visit that part of the Southwold Railway in the future.

LMS Patriot Project 4-6-0 No. 45551 'The Unknown Warrior'Posted by: Dale W Fickes on Sep 15, 2021 @ 06:09:25
The original - and last - ‘Patriot’ class No. 5551, and un-named, was delivered from Crewe Works to the LMS in May 1934. Upon nationalisation it became British Railways No. 45551, still un-named and was withdrawn from service in June 1962 and later scrapped. Whilst the current locomotive being built from scratch is following the design, identity and livery of the original engine, when completed it will NEVER be able to run on either the former LMS or BR (though it may be accepted but not owned by the current ‘Network Rail’) and it may be more appropriate to list under the owner(s) to show the actual difference and clarity for the benefit of all observers.
