This entry has caused me some problems as it was scrapped many years ago. Consulting my records I see I saw 520-02 at Hatvan on 13.04.97.Note 520-02 not 520,002. Numbers with a dash rather than a comma are stationary boiler numbers. 520-02 was the former 520,074 and as far as I know was subsequently scrapped.

NCB, Mountain Ash 0-6-0ST No. 1 'The Pilling Pig'Posted by: Steve Frost, European Editor on Oct 7, 2021 @ 12:10:52
Dale W Fickés writes: 0-6-0ST No. 1885 of 1955, to be found plinthed, since 2001, outside the caravan park administrative building in the grounds of Fold Farm (close to the station of Pilling and trackbed of the former Garstang & Knot-End Railway - G & K.E.Rly) adjacent to the A588 Head Dyke Lane. Pilling, Lancashire, PR3 6SJ. This long gone companys initials now appear on the saddle tank, along with No. 11302 on the cab sides which refers to a previous Hudswell Clarke locomotive destined for this line in L & Y days. It is also fitted with a horizontal nameplate on the running frame entitled "The Pilling Pig", a reference to previous locomotives that operated on the line.

Hudswell, Clarke 0-6-0ST No. 1885 of 1955 was one of the last locomotives produced by this Leeds company. It was supplied to the NCB at Lady Windsor Colliery and spent sixteen years of its working life there, but was relocated to nearby Mountain Ash depot in the adjacent Afon Cynon Valley during 1971 bearing, No. 1. Here, along with an assortment of other locomotives, it served several other pits, the last of which, Deep Duffryn, closed in 1979. The locomotive was out of service by 1977 and stored in the local MAR workshops until 1981. Saved by Welsh Heritage, it was moved to the Gwilli Railway on loan; subsequently purchased but never ran for them due to the condition of its firebox which was deemed un-economical to replace/repair.

Subsequently, in 2001, it was purchased by the owners of Fold Farm and Caravan Park, moved north and then cosmetically restored to its current condition and displayed in the grounds. Knott End village is currently spelt with a double "t", the railway company was formed with a single "t" in the 19th century.

London & North Eastern Railway 4-6-2 No. 60009 (4488, 9) 'Union of South Africa'Posted by: Russell Newman on Oct 6, 2021 @ 12:10:48
It should have said sorry that its sad to announced that former LNER A4 Pacific No. 60009 "Union of South Africa" has now been withdrawn from service, which this now means that the locomotive has now retired from service for good. The locomotive has been running in preservation longer than with both the London & North Eastern Railway and British Railways together since 1966. I would like to conclude by saying thank you to John Cameron for saving and giving us Number 9 to enjoy on both the main line and heritage railways around the UK, as she will be now sadly missed.

London Midland & Scottish Railway 4-6-2 No. 46229 (6229) 'Duchess of Hamilton'Posted by: Dale W Fickes on Oct 6, 2021 @ 12:10:28
It may be worth remembering, for the current generation of enthusiasts, that this locomotive, then as the newest of its Class and in the guise of No. 6220 ‘Coronation’, toured the eastern United States between Baltimore and New York in March/April 1939 before regaining its true identity upon return to the UK. With a reference to a previous note that ‘some’ of this Class were originally ‘streamlined’. Nos. 6200 - 6233 by the LMS, and the last, No. 46257 ‘City of Salford’ did not appear from Crewe Works until after the 1948 British Railways nationalisation, in May 1949. Subsequent locomotives, from 6234 - 6256 were never streamlined and those that were had their casing removed by BR.
