This locomotive was delivered to the Hamra Railway, Tumba south of Stockholm, as their No. 5 ‘HAMRA’. It worked on various industrial sites on a line that closed in 1947, whence it went to a lime quarry on the Isle of Gotland where it worked for another ten years. It was saved from scrapping by the Swedish Railway Club who swapped in for another of similar scrap value. Renovated from 1961, it resumed service with new owners at Mariefred in 1969.

This locomotive was, apparently, delivered directly to the Emsfors Paper Mill along with another of German Army design and following the ceasing of hostilities, may never have served or been numbered by the latter, possibly only designated?

Originally built for the Natträby, Alnaryd & Älmeboda Railway (NAAJ) which closed in 1939. It was purchased by Aspa Bruk working, with another on this 15km line until 1955 when both were placed in strategic reserve.

Another loco from the Oligari collection It worked for Tiberto Spa but it is an Orenstein & Koppel. Maffei 3343 was a TCDD 2a TCDD 2-6-2T standard gauge. Another Italian mystery.

This was the first locomotive to arrive at Mariefred, having been first delivered to the Stafsjö Railway, Kolmärden as their No.2 ‘VIRA’. Following WW1 it was sold to the Bjørkåsen Mines until closure in 1965, when it was then presented to the ÖSIJ, overhauled and worked again from 1967.

Delivered to the short Edsbenk - Hälgenäs Harbour line as their No. 7 ‘HELGENÄS’ and has been with the ÖSIJ since 1965 after being rebuilt by students at the School of Engineering, Eskilstuna.

The locomotive was originally supplied to Smedjebacken Rolling Mills, Västlandman being given the identity No 6 ‘SMEDJEBACKEN’. This, along with several others on the roster, was replaced in 1951, by diesel power and the engine overhauled by apprentices prior to being given to the ÕSIJ in 1967.

Krauss 8066 was a 0-6-0T 750 mm gauge. It could be Krauss 806 but there is no record of 806 being preserved. Another mystery to solve.p

The locomotive was first delivered to the Äse Limeworks, near Ostersund. In 1934 it went to the Strå Limeworks, near Sala and then to quarries at Dylta north of Örebo until 1960 when the latter stopped using steam power. It was then presented to the ÖSIJ at Lina Bruk before moving to Mariefred.

The locomotive was first supplied to the SJ Central Building Depot for construction work, then sold to Kohlswa Ironworks, the going on to work at the company’s feldspar mine in Torp. Following closure it was locked away in a shed and eventually came to the notice of the Swedish Locomotive Club after which the company agreed to give it to ÖSIJ. Only then was it given the No. 2 and named ‘LOTTA’ working on the museum railway at Lina Bruk, near Södertalje before being moved to Mariefred in 1966. As they had another locomotive (VIRA) at that location with the same running number, it then became their No. 1 to avoid confusion.

Whilst owned by the Railway Museum the locomotive is understood to be part of the Innovatum Science Centre located in the old Nohab workshops in Trollhättan. It may have gone back since seen by me in July 2006.

My records show this loco as 835.034 painted as 835.069. Also the electric loco is E626.188 painted as E626.384. A mystery to be solved.

This locomotive had a history with several operators. Following work on the Mellersta Södermanland Railway (MISIJ) it joined the SJ as their Class MS No. 1508 and, in 1936, was sold again, on this occasion, to the Bjärred, Lund, Harlösa Railway (BLHJ), also as their No. 2. In 1940 it was finally sold to the firm of Svenska Socker AB of Kavlange and Hököpinge and had been reported to carry the name of the latter town, though never confirmed. It was first preserved in Trelleborg during 1963.

The locomotive was built for the Fryksta Klara Alv Railway (FKAJ), operated with horses until it’s 1849 arrival. In 1872 the railway was converted to Standard 1,435mm gauge and the engine sent to the naval base at Karlskrona. Via Karlsborg, from 1880, it went to the Swedish Railway Museum in 1906.

This locomotive is/was also named ‘TYR’ of the MaSJ.

This locomotive was actually built for the Skane Smalands Jarnvag (SSJ) as their No. 4. It only went to the Nora-Karlskoga Railway (NJK) as their No. 1 ‘KARLSKOGA’ in 1906.

This railway and stock came under ownership of the TGOJ in 1924; the locomotive being placed in it’s current location during 1930.

This locomotive was built for the Höör-Hörby Railway (HHyJ), being their No. 1 ‘BIFROST on that system. It was only sold, some eighteen years later, in 1900, following it’s sale to the Swedish iron-ore company Luossavaara-Kirunavaara AB of Narvik, it became their No. 5, whose identity it retains, post 1964 after withdrawal from service.

The preserved locomotive was one of six built specifically for SJ construction work, based in Stockholm and eventually became Class A, thence, in 1900, Class Qä.
