Bowaters Paper Mills 0-4-2ST No. 'Leader'Posted by: Russell Newman on Feb 19, 2024 @ 06:02:37
The ex Bowaters Paper Mills Kerr Stuart & Co. built Brazil Class 0-4-2ST Works No. 926 "Leader", will be leaving the Sittingbourne & Kemsley Light Railway, as it is to relocated to the One:One Collection (Locomotive Storage Ltd.) at Margate in Kent, for safe undercover storage and display there. As the Sittingbourne & Kemsley Light Railway, has limited undercover storage for its locos and as the 1905-built Brazil class locomotive is expected to be out of service for some time, retiring to the seaside is the best option, until such time it can return for overhaul. But in the mean time "Leader" will be reunited with former Bowaters workmate ‘Pioneer the Second’ which is now known as the Bluebell Railway’s former South Eastern & Chatham Railway P Class 0-6-0T No.178 which is also moving to Margate too as well.

Penrhyn Slate Quarry 0-4-0ST No. 'Nesta'Posted by: Russell Newman on Feb 16, 2024 @ 15:02:09
It has been confirmed that former Lord Penrhyn’s Slate Quarries Hunslet built 0-4-0ST Works No. 704 "Nesta", will be relocating to the Ffestiniog Railway at Porthmadog, Gwynedd in North Wales, for restoration, for her new owner the Richmond Light Railway in Kent. Both railways have come to an agreement to ensure the best future for "Nesta", which was built in 1899. The locomotive has spent a long time in Puerto Rico, where the weather has taken its toll on the locomotive, but has been well looked after by the team at the Bala Lake Railway since its arrival at their museum there. The Richmond Light Railway has acquired the locomotive and has outlined a plan for conservation work, with the aim to return the locomotive to operation, whilst conserving as much of the original locomotive as possible. "Nesta" worked at Bethesda and the decision has been made to have the Ffestiniog Railway team at Boston Lodge overhaul the locomotive in the coming years. The locomotive will be transferred to the Ffestiniog Railway and will be on display to the public in an unrestored condition. "Nesta" will form part of a new display for the behind-the-scenes tours which will start in the summer. Physical work is unlikely to start until the end of 2024 once a plan has been fully drawn up. Once complete, it is expected "Nesta" will make regular trips to North Wales from the Richmond Light Railway.
