Southern Railway 4-6-2 No. 34028 (21C128) 'Eddystone'Posted by: Russell Newman on Sep 3, 2025 @ 14:09:32
After months of work, the ex Southern Railway rebuilt Bulleid West Country Class Light Pacific No. 34028 "Eddystone", took to the mainline for the first time since 1964 with a light engine test run from the Swanage Railway to Southall Depot in West, London in readiness for mainline charter train work with the Railway Touring Company during the Autumn and Winter months.

Meadow River Lumber Co. Shay - 2 truck No. 1Posted by: Matthew Gardner on Sep 3, 2025 @ 11:09:15
You may change my previous note. After speaking to a shop mechanic there, this engine is in fact being MECHANICALLY restored. They claim it will be done by 2027! This will be quite a feat for the place considering their history. They want 10 coaches to be in service before they get a mainline engine in service. Also, the first mainline engine will be 2317, and not 3713.

Canadian Pacific RR 4-6-2 No. 2317Posted by: Matthew Gardner on Sep 3, 2025 @ 11:09:11
After speaking to a man in the shop, this engine is going to be on the road again even before 3713. It needs less work due to having been just taken off tube time. 3713 still needs 3 million to the boiler.

British Railways 4-6-2 No. 71000 'Duke of Gloucester'Posted by: Russell Newman on Sep 2, 2025 @ 10:09:54
Having completed a successful series of light engine test runs on the mainline, the unique BR Standard 8P Class Pacific No. 71000 "Duke of Gloucester", was ment to have done loaded test runs but they have had to be put on hold by Network Rail due to the very hot dry summer this year and line-side fire risk. But while No. 71000 out of action until Network Rail lifts the restrictions, the locomotive has been in the paint shops at Crewe being painted in full BR Brunswick Green livery applied. The Duke will be out of the paint shop by mid-October, ready for its loaded mainline test runs and hauling some Christmas specials which will be its first mainline railtour charters since completion of its overhaul in December.

Kerang & Koondrook Tramway 4wVBT No. NonePosted by: Steve Frost, European Editor on Sep 1, 2025 @ 14:09:59
By the look of it and the date it was made, my guess is that it is a static replica of a Sentinel vertical boilered locomotive. Notice that the frame and running gear seem to be from a four wheel wagon. A Sentinel running gear is different and the drive chains would be visible if it was a real operable locomotive

British Railways 2-10-0 No. 92214Posted by: Russell Newman on Sep 1, 2025 @ 06:09:53
This is the history of BR Standard 9F 2-10-0 No. 92214, which was among the final batch of 9F’s built at Swindon Works in October 1959. No. 92214 had spent most of its short working life of just six years hauling freight on the Western Region of British Railways, and was allocated from new briefly to Cardiff Canton shed in October 1959, it then went to Banbury from November 1959, and then onto Ebbw Junction in November 1961. Its final shed allocation was Severn Tunnel Junction from July 1964, where it was withdrawn from service in in August 1965 and sold as scrap to Dail Woodham’s scrapyard at Barry Island in South Wales where it would remain rusting away until until December 1980 when it went to the Buxton in Derbyshire. But little work was done on it there as it was still in a very poor condition at Buxton in 1989 but it was later purchased by the then 92214 Locomotive Group and moved to the Midland Railway - Butterley where it was restored to steam in July 2003. No. 92214 ran at the Midland Railway - Butterley for two seasons and then it went on loan to the East Lancashire Railway between 2006 and 2008. In 2010 the locomotive was sold to PV Premier Ltd, a Grosmont based company owned by Stuart Whitter and was moved to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, where it was named "Cock of the North" and was based at the Moors line until January 2014. When No. 92214 moved to the Great Central Railway for what was ment to be a Gala visit but turned out to be a permanent move there as the locomotive was sold again this time to the then GCR Director (Mr Michael Gregory of Cromwell Tools) for dedicated use on the Great Central Railway. No. 92214 is right at home at the Great Central Railway at 9F’s did work along the Great Central mainline in BR days hauling freight through Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire during the 1950s and 60s. In 2023 the locomotive was sold to the David Clarke Railway Trust to secure its longer term future at the railway as No. 92214 is a popular member of the Great Central Railway’s running fleet there. No. 92214 was withdrawn from service in December 2023 when its boiler certificate expired and is now awaiting another overhaul which should take place soon.
