J. Neils Lumber Co. Shay - 2 truck No. 6Posted by: Gregg Pullano on Jul 19, 2019 @ 24:07:09
As noted by others, the locomotive is owned by E&LS owner and CEO John Larkin. It is stored in a secret facility disconnected from live rail in the same location as the famous Baldwin Sharks. Like the sharks, its storage is due to railfans vandalizing and stealing from Larkin in the past. My source, who has seen the locomotive, says that it looks essentially the same now as it does in the photos, likely due to its indoor storage for many years now.

Detroit & Mackinac RR 0-6-0 No. 8Posted by: Gregg Pullano on Jul 19, 2019 @ 24:07:22
Unfortunately, 8 remains stored at the Henry Ford today and apparently, per a source with close ties to the institution, there is internal disagreement on its place at the museum. Individuals who do not wish to restore or even exhibit the locomotive have so far carried the day.

United States Army 2-8-0 No. 612Posted by: Gregg Pullano on Jul 19, 2019 @ 24:07:35
As of 2019, a very nice cosmetic restoration on the engine was completed in tandem with the 75th anniversary of D-Day. It has been renumbered to US Army 2630 and painted in an olivish green to indicate to visitors that it is an Army engine. While the US-based S160s never wore such a color, some exported to Britain did. I am not sure if the locomotive will be restored to operation as some others at the roundhouse have been, but it looks better than it has in decades now to be sure.

Ohio Power Co. 0-6-0 No. 3Posted by: Gregg Pullano on Jul 19, 2019 @ 24:07:02
Since the last note, the engine has returned to service again and is making quite a splash in southern Ohio operating on the HVSR. Hats off to a successful restoration by the HVSR team.

Grand Trunk Western RR 2-8-2 No. 4070Posted by: Gregg Pullano on Jul 19, 2019 @ 24:07:09
As others have said, the status of the locomotive should read "Restoration." While progress has been very slow and hampered by the presence of 2100 and other projects in and around the roundhouse (including stabilizing structure from an incident 15 years ago), MRPS has been slowly working on the locomotive. I was present in 2015 to watch them fix a section of the smokebox. The long term goal of the organization remains returning the engine to operation so it can run in the Cuyahoga Valley and possibly along other lines in Northeast Ohio and the Midwest again.

Chicago, Burlington & Quincy RR 0-6-0 No. 1548Posted by: Gregg Pullano on Jul 18, 2019 @ 23:07:58
Since the last note was posted in 2009, very little has changed for this locomotive. The condition of the locomotive is reletively unchanged from the past decade. As with its smaller "stablemate" nearby, some foiliage has popped up over the decade. I am honestly not sure if the University of Akron even has this locomotive or the other switcher on their radar. Aside from the hotel, there is not a lot of activity or commerce in this corner of Akron anymore, despite the downtown beginning to see a revitalization of sorts.

Gruen & Biflinger AG 0-4-0T No. UnknownPosted by: Gregg Pullano on Jul 18, 2019 @ 23:07:12
Since the last note was posted in 2008, very little has changed for this locomotive. Some trees have grown up around it that were not present in the photos here and it is now hidden, but looking a little worse for wear. Its small size means it would probably be a decent restoration candidate for a small group who might want to take on the challenge. I am honestly not sure if the University of Akron even has it or 1548 on their radar. Aside from the hotel, there is not a lot of activity or commerce in this corner of Akron anymore, despite the downtown beginning to see a revitalization of sorts.

As the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway have signed a signed a contract with the Zillertalbahn in Austria which the agreement will further cement a relationship between the two 2ft 6in gauge railways that dates back to the earliest years of the preservation of the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway. Zillertalbahn 0-6-2T No. 2 'Zillertal'Posted by: Jack Spencer on Jul 14, 2019 @ 11:07:01
This little locomotive is going on a surprise visit to England as she is visiting the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway for around two years. This will enhance the WLLRs somewhat Continental feel and will help bolster the current fleet, until similar No. 699. 01 Sir Drefaldqyn enters service around the end of the year.
