The go ahead for making a new cylinder block for this veteran has been given. Consideration is also being given to see if the pattern could be modified to make a new block for fellow Lambton 0-6-2 tank loco No 5.

Sadly, 29 is out of service as she's developed a cracked cylinder block. Since a new one will have to be produced, she may be sidelined for some time. A pity, as she's a lovely old engine.

29 is back at Grosmont, and has had some teething problems since its return - hot axlebox, hot coupling rod bearing and a leaking steam pipe. Still hasn't made it to K&ESR, but if she's fit it may happen this year.

Currently out of traffic and at Bury for a bottom end overhaul before return to NYMR and a visit to the Kent and East Sussex Railway. This will be the furthest south the old girl has ever been.

29 is a tank engine built for the Lambton, Hetton and Joicey Collieries to one of Kitson's standard designs. Similar locos were supplied to main line companies like the Hull and Barnsley Railway and the Lancashire, Derbyshire and East Coast Railway. Withdrawn from the National Coal Board's depot at Philadelphia, Co Durham, she has spent most of her retirement on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, where she worked the first train on reopening to the public in 1973 with NER 0-6-0 No 2392. Currently in traffic, she worked a heavy mileage on NYMR trains in 2002 - not bad for a loco nearing its centenary!
