London & North Eastern Railway 4-6-2 No. 60009 (4488, 9) 'Union of South Africa'Posted by: Russell Newman on Mar 2, 2020 @ 12:03:16
A interesting fact about the corridor tender that No. 60009 has is not the original. Number Nine’s original tender saw fame as the second water tank with "Flying Scotsman" in the days when 4472 ran with two tenders in the late 1960s and 70s. Today Number Nine’s original tender is still used as a second water tank but with sister A4 No. 4464 "Bittern". The corridor Tender that No. 60009 is paired with today is from the experimental Gresley W1 Class 4-6-4 No. 10000 "Hush-Hush" the only 4-6-4 tender locomotive to run in Britain.

Do not be fooled by the number on the front and tender, the identity was changed to 564.25 Kuala Lumpur in August 1985 when it was being used on specials in connection with the Centenary exhibition at Taiping. Afterwards it was withdrawn from use and displayed at Butterworth where it soon started to deteriorate. It has since been moved to Bukit Mertajam and still carries its false identity.

PKTM 4-6-2.3Cyl No. 564.21 'Selama'(Displayed as 564.12 'Alor Gajah')Posted by: Malcolm Wilton-Jones on Mar 1, 2020 @ 07:03:29
I can confirm that after withdrawal 564.21 was preserved on the main platform at Gemas for many years but with a tender from 564.12, as per the makers plate on the rear buffer. It was later joined by 564.36 at the south end of the station. A few years ago it was transferred to Port Dickson Army Museum where it was repainted and re-identified as 564.12. Towards the end of steam mony of the survivors were paired with not only the wrong tenders but boilers were also swapped around as were smoke deflectors which carried the makers plates, thus the confusion over numbers! 564.34 at Pekan has the plates from 564.09 but the plate on the rear of the frames is 564.34.
