Several sources state that this locomotive was built by Baldwin.

When I visited the loco was in the shed/workshop it does appear to be in operational codition.It had no plates on but carried a No. 6 on the front of the chimney. There are also photos of it in steam and carrying the name "Widnau"

A 10 ton crane built for the LNER at the Leicester works of Taylor Hubbard. To be used on permanent way work for the railway.

While working for LNER & BR it was based variously at Leyton, Beighton & York. After withdrawal was sold in 1982 to Nene Valley railway. Can now be seen at Chasewater railway

A 45 ton lift breakdown crane built for the Southern Railway. It was allocated to Exmouth Junction until its closure in 1965. Then was based at various depots of the Western Region of British Railways until withdrawn in 1984. Bought by Mid Hants railway in 1992. They had it in service a year later.

One of two cranes built for the LNER to replaced two taken over by the War Department. Built by Ransomes & Rapier at their Waterside works in Ipswich. Works order F4991-3. Had a maximum lift of 45 tons. In 1943 allocated to Gorton depot. In 1965 moved to Newton Heath depot. Withdrawn from service in 1981. Sold to Bluebell Railway in the same year.

Overhauled and back in use in 1985. Used on various heavy lift jobs around the railway until 1995 when taken out of service.

The location for No. 6 "Lord Phil" has to be changed to the Midland Railway Centre at Butterley in Derbyshire as that is where the locomotive is since 2019.

A 7.5 ton lift self propelled steam crane. Originally built for Ministry of Supply, becoming War Department 1624. Later worked for Tyne Dock Engineering, a ship repair company in South Shields, being numbered 6. Now displayed in Gloucester Docks a short walk from the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum.

Built in the 1880s and used at Kirkstall Forge in Leeds. May have originally been capable of lifting 4 tons, at some time it was down rated to 1 ton. Now on display at back of National Waterways Museum in Gloucester docks. The museum has restored this self propelled crane, occasionally doing demonstrations runs on a short length of track.

William Balmforth started his own business in the 1870s. His factory was at Peel Ing Foundry, Rodley. He build mostly steam cranes, but also a few vetical boilered locomotives. The firm was renamed Balmforth Brothers after his death. When his sons took over the business. The company ceased production in 1916.
