CR 2-10-2 No. QJ 6998Posted by: Russell Newman on Apr 11, 2020 @ 06:04:16
QJ 6998 was among the last QJ Steam Locomotives working on the Daban to Chabuga section of the Jitong Railway in 2005. This locomotive had been set aside for preservation in the United States of America and was moved from Daban to Jinzhou 701 works in Liaoning province for storage till a buyer could be found in the USA. 6998 would have joined sister QJ’s 6988, 7081 and 7040 over in the USA but sadly in 2010 Jinzhou 701 works closed and the locomotive was cut up for scrap and as of 2020 is now razer blades.

There is a lot of speculative data in this entry on the site. Whether this loco still exists is a moot point, and the identity shown is from Dale W Fickés as this data fits the only loco of class 16 whose location is unknown. Judging by the original location given Dale has assumed that the location could be Gorna Mahala. If you know otherwise, let us know.

Arlesey Lime &Portland Cement 4-4wVBCT No. 'Hooley'Posted by: Robin R Beck on Apr 6, 2020 @ 16:04:59
Worked in a chalk quarry in Arlesey. One of two steam excavator digging at different levels of an open pit quarry, supplying a cement works. Worked until the 1920s when more modern machinery took over. The quarry closed 1930s, and lower level flooded. When the scrap men arrived in World War 2, they dismantled the top level machine but RP 306 was hidden in the flooded quarry.

In the 1970s the flooded quarry used by boaters and divers. News of the sunken excavator got out. It was rescued and returned to builders workshops where apprentices rebuilt it, being in steam by 1980. Went on loan to Museum of Lincolnshire Life. But over time fell into disrepair. Moved to Threlkeld where it was again restored. Now giving demonstrations.

Named HOOLEY after Ray Hooley who was instrumental in it being preserved.

Lanarkshire Steelworks 4wVBCT No. NonePosted by: Robin R Beck on Mar 31, 2020 @ 13:03:25
An interesting self propelled steam crane. With a lift of 20 tons it had 3 sets of dual pistons, allowing it to travel, hoist & slew(turn) simultaneously. A skilled operator could manage loads very quickly. Later models only had one set of pistons. Travel, hoist & slew were engaged by clutches from one drive shaft. This crane was made at Marshall Fleming & Jack, Dellburn works in Motherwell for the Lanarkshire Steel Company to operate at their Motherwell steelworks. Now displayed at the entrance to Summerlee Heritage Park. Without its boiler.

Grand Trunk Western RR 2-8-2 No. 4070Posted by: Jim Arcaro on Mar 30, 2020 @ 22:03:05
A few corrections: The 2100 is not owned by Midwest. It is being restored by a group that leases space there. Other steam locomotives that have run on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic, besides 4070, are Ohio Central (CP)1293, and NKP 765. It is hoped that 2100 will be able to run there too, once it is completed. I am part of the restoration team.

All these cranes that are being added as locomotives lately. I Assume they can all move under their own power, but does something railbound with an engine of some kind always count as a locomotive??
