DR (DRB) 2-10-0 No. 44.2155-2 (44 155)Posted by: Dale W Fickés on Oct 18, 2023 @ 04:10:18
The published identity of this, now scrapped, locomotive is incorrect in the file! It should be, original DRB No. 44.115 that was delivered coal-fired shortly prior to the start of WW2, i.e. on 17 February 1939 and joined the DR post-war fleet in thar guise until being called duing the winter of 1964/5 into their Meiningen workshops for conversion to oil burning, then released as No.44.0115, later when computerised to become No. 44.0115-4. However, again at Meiningenin early 1982, it was re-convertedvto coal firiing, this time as a mobile heating locomotive (NHL) and served at Bw Hoyerswerda, upon being absorbed into DB during 1992 and regained its computer number of 044-115-4 before being scrapped at the depot.

OSE 2-10-2 No. 1002Posted by: Matthew Gardner on Oct 17, 2023 @ 11:10:01
I have a book about the end of steam locomotives all around the countries of the world, and this class of locomotives are said to be the largest straight 2 cylinder locomotives Europe ever had. They were, however, very troublesome. They were built by the Italians due to that country owing Greece after the second World War. They never produced any main line locomotives in over 20 years, or any of that enormous size, and as a result, the 20 engines of this class were built with fireboxes too small for them. After only 2 years, they were sent back to be rebuilt with new boilers, but were still not right. The only reason they were not retired was due to Italy not being able to admit they screwed up. Hellenistic engine crews put up with them for over 20 years until steam was done in Greece.

This engine was apparently operable as an excursion engine for a time. There is a video of it running with an excursion train on Youtube. It is very hard to dig up, but is out there somewhere. It shows the engine with its backhead painted green pulling 4 passenger cars, with a diesel at the rear of the train.
