There has been a suprising discovery about ex Southern Railway Bulleid Battle of Britain Class Light Pacific No. 34073 "249 Squadron", that its not the locomotive everyone has thought it was for many years, as it turns out that this locomotive is really ex Southern Railway Bulleid Battle of Britain Class Light Pacific No. 34054 "Lord Beaverbrook"!! Its current owner John Bunch has inspected the locomotive and found a lot of parts with No. 34054’s number on them. No. 34054 or No. 21C154 (Southern Railway number) was built at in 1947 at Brighton and was withdrawn from service by British Railways in 1964. It was thought that No. 34054 had been cut up at Brids of Bynea in 1965, how it ended up with No. 34073’s name and number and going to Dai Woodham’s Scrapyard at Barry Island in South Wales is unknown?? No. 34054 or 34073 remains at West Coast Railway Company’s Depot at Carnforth in Lancashire still, but its true identity is unlikely to be fully authenticated any time soon. John Bunch has said he has no current plans for the locomotive yet, but it is still viable for restoration still.
