The 4709 Group who have bought former GWR Castle Class 4-6-0 No. 7027 "Thornbury Castle" for use in the construction of their new build GWR 47XX Class 2-8-0 "Night Owl" No. 4709 have annouced that the boiler from No. 7027 is set to be used in No. 4709 to get the locomotive completed. The news of No. 7027 "Thornbury Castle" being sold for use in the construction of No. 4709 has not gone down well in the UK railway community, as the previous-owner Jonathan Jones-Pratt released his plans to buy back the locomotive and return it to steam. But the 4709 group have said that the remaining components of No. 7027 are a kind of treasure trove for preservation. They’ll be inspected, protected for preservation and securely stored until such time for the 4709 Group to decided what to do with them. Their has been talk the the main frames of No. 7027 "Thornbury Castle" could be used in a new build GWR Star Class 4-6-0 but there no plans by Didcot to build one in this current time.
