W. Awdry to life on the television screens and gave such a happy childhood to many children and fans around the world has sadly passed away at the age of 81. The Mid-Hants Railway (the Watercress Line) has a strong connection to Britt Allcroft and the Thomas the tank engine and friends of Thomas and Friends television series as she gave her blessing and she signed off for the transformation of ex NCB, Maesteg Hunslet built Austerity 0-6-0ST (Works No. 3781) No. 6 "Linda" into Thomas the Tank Engine for Days out with Thomas events which is still very popular at the Mid-Hants Railway and some places around the UK still, and has even featured in the Thomas the tank engine friends series in special home release videos in the UK and for Japan during the 1990s. In tribute to the late Britt Allcroft the Mid-Hants Railway had steamed "Thomas the Tank Engine" (ex NCB, Maesteg Hunslet built Austerity 0-6-0ST (Works No. 3781) No. 6 "Linda") without his face and Number 1 on the sides for rights reasons for a special tribute run on their Steam Illuminations Specials with a Wreath of Flowers on his smokebox door as a sign of respect and thank you to her for the happiness she brought. Andrew Barclay built fireless 0-4-0F Works No. 1984 "Boots No. 1", has now been complete at Williton works on the West Somerset Railway, and the locomotive is now ready for testing. "Boots No. 1" will be the second operational Fireless steam locomotive in preservation after its sister the former Shell Petroelum, Ardrossan, Andrew Barclay built fireless 0-4-0F Works (No. 1952) No. 8, at the Doon Valley Railway at Dalmellington, Ayrshire in Scotland. Locomotion Trust 0-4-0 No. 1 'Locomotion' Posted by: Russell Newman on Jan 4, 2025 @ 11:01:49 The status of the 1975 built working replica of "Locomotion No. 1", is operational as the replica Stephenson locomotive is being moved to the Great Central Railway for testing and running-in trials as part of the plans to certify it to run on the mainline for the Railway 200 celebrations this year. "Locomotion No. 1" will be at the Great Central Railway from mid-January until the end of February 2025. Afterwords the locomotive and its new replica train of new Chaldron waggons and carriage "Experimant" will then move to the Weardale Railway at Wolsingham in Durham for further testing and trials to measure the locomotive’s water, coal and oil consumption. Which those will determine how its three days of demonstration runs between Shildon, Darlington and Stockton from the 26th to 28th of September 2025, will be pathed to accommodate stops for refuelling and checks of bearings during those special runs then. The reason for this move is due to the lack of suitiable mainline steam crews to operate the locomotive on the mainlines of Northern Ireland. Its planned for No. 171 to operate the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland’s mainline railtours around Dublin. Celebrating the opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway 200 years ago this year and the start of the modern railway that we know today. No. 910 is only locomotive to have featured in all three anniversary celebrations of the Stockton and Darlington Railway in 1875, 1925 and 1975. No. 910 is currently undergoing cosmetic restoration in the workshops at Locomotion, Shildon.
