Brooklyn Eastern District Terminal 0-6-0T No. 15Posted by: Russell Newman on Jan 5, 2025 @ 11:01:42
Following the sad passing of the late Britt Allcroft, the woman who brought the world of Thomas the tank engine and friends from the Railway Series books by the Rev. W. Awdry to life on the television screens and gave such a happy childhood to many children and fans around the world, at the age of 81. There have been many tributes paid to her by Thomas fans and heritage railways from around the world as Thomas the tank engine and friends later renamed to Thomas and friends is popular worldwide and inspires many children to become railway enthusiasts, train drivers, or railway engineers today. Britt Allcroft first introduced the world of Thomas the tank engine and friends on the screens of United States of America back in 1989 in the childrens televsion show Shining Time Station and has been a big hit out there ever since. The Strasburg Railroad in Pennsylvania has strong conections to Britt Allcroft and the Thomas the tank engine and friends series as she gave her blessing and she signed off for the transformation of former Brooklyn Eastern District Terminal Railroad H.K. Porter built 0-6-0T No. 15 into Thomas the tank engine for their popular Day out with Thomas events there and around the United States of America. No. 15 is the only full size steam locomotive to be Thomas the tank engine in the USA. The Strasburg Railroad has even been featured in the Thomas and friends series when it was featured in the home video release 10 years of Thomas the tank engine and friends which was filmed there in 1999 and has also featured in the Thomas the tank engine feature film Thomas and the Magic Railroad in 2000.
