Unknown 0-6-0T No. 154APosted by: Steve Frost on Sep 11, 2019 @ 17:09:11
Starting in 1897, the German authorities in South West Africa built a military railway inland from Windhoek for 382Km. The locomotives supplied were twin unit 0-6-0Ts known as Zwillinge (Twins). Superficially these back to back tank engines looked like a Double Fairlie, but that was not the way they were built. They could easily be split into two locos and often worked like this attached to water tenders to extend their range. The single units, like this survivor were known as Illinge. As delivered they had a single number, the two halves being distinguished by A or B as a suffix to the number. As this is 154A, I wonder about the fate of 154B.

Dorothea Slate Quarry 0-4-0ST No. 1 'Wendy'Posted by: Russell Newman on Sep 11, 2019 @ 06:09:45
Sad news has come that after 55 years the Hampshire Narrow Gauge Railway Trust is to be no more as their railway at the Bursledon Brickworks Museum is to be closed at the end of the year. This is due to it was given a rolling one year lease which has stopped it obtaining grants to build a restoration shed. Also the decreasing numbers and increasing age of the volunteers and members has meant that it has struggled to find the necessary manpower required to keep the railway and its locomotives and rolling stock running. All of the locomotives and including ex Dorothea Slate Quarry Bagnall built 0-4-0ST No. 1 "Wendy" will be passed on and moved to the Statfold Barn Railway at Tamworth in Staffordshire which will be their new home.

Roden Stone Co. 2-4-0 No. 3Posted by: Johnathan Fuell on Sep 9, 2019 @ 09:09:09
Confirmed: This locomotive is no longer in Springfield,MO. It is on public, static display in front of the Branson Toy Museum. The original owner (a local business mogul) has passed away. It is part of his estate being managed by his children, and is on loan for the moment (my understanding from speaking with museum workers). They would like to put it in a building but no one has stepped up with funding. Closer mechanical inspection reveals the boiler in remarkably good shape, with all flues still in and thickly rolled but not welded), lubricators still leaking some steam oil, turbo and hot water pump in place, journal packing tight, and linkages still movable. The MAJOR DEGRADATION ISSUE is the stack is not capped. The smokebox is quickly rusting, with acidic corrosion taking its toll from remaining ash.
