Cermal Valley Railway 0-4-0T No. U29.101 'Krutwig'Posted by: Steve Frost on Jul 2, 2020 @ 09:07:45
Dale W Fickés came across this little mongrel ina recent magazine.

He wrote: 'The information given by Andrew Thompson was, I found, somewhat vague prompting me to investigate further. Under the number U29.101, no information was found nor was any building reference other than CKD and 1957, both of which also proved negative.

With further delving I found that this engine is in fact a composite of two previous industrial locomotives, parts of which were probably originally built by both Skoda and CKD in Plzen, Czech Republic. Although previous identities are not given (and probably not known in the fulness of time) many details and photographs do appear on the website of the recent restorer/construction, Kolínská Lokomotivní.

I can find no reference during its construction/re-construction but it should be noted that the eventual locomotive was changed from 900mm to 1000mm. The Type is BS80, No. 900 referring to the gauge. I would suggest that No. U29.101 is a recent fictional running number.'

I have added the loco to the database but cannot find the likely candidates as the source locos for the rebuild. One seems to have been 200.373 which had been plinthed at Púchov station which has recently been rebuilt. Perhaps this is why the loco became available. This loco was not on the site.

Chesapeake & Ohio RR 2-8-4 No. 2707Posted by: Martin Braunlich on Jun 26, 2020 @ 08:06:28
I remember this locomotive well when it sat at Brookside Park. Back in 1959 on a cold Easter Sunday, my grandparents and my parents made a trip there to see it. Now my brother and I were four years old and this was the first steam locomotive I had ever seen up close. What a monster to a three foot high kid. Thankfully my grandfather took some black and white photos. Back then it was very complete before the vandalism tore off many components. I saw it a number of times after that including a day with Captain Penny a very well known Cleveland kids show TV host who always wore a engineer’s hat.. I last saw it in the flats near the old B&O roundhouse looking very poor. I took pictures of it there too before it went to Illinois. I’m glad it was saved but there is so much missing, I doubt it will ever be restored.
