Leipzig-Dresden Bahn 0-4-2 No. 'Saxonia'Posted by: Achim on Oct 26, 2023 @ 05:10:04
This locomotive is a replica in the GDR on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the first German long-distance railway Leipzig-Dresden. The production of components was carried out by the Dresden, Oebisfelde, Berlin-Pankow and Weißenfels railway depots as well as the Wilsdruff refurbishment workshop. The tender was built at the Waren (Müritz) operational site of the Neustrelitz railway depot. The assembly took place in 1988 in Raw Halle. The new locomotive was fired up for the first time on October 1, 1988. 14 days later, the new locomotive demonstrated its full functionality during a test drive to Eisleben. During the acceptance test between Halle and Leipzig on January 12, 1989, the locomotive ran very smoothly and produced good steam, even at a speed of 70 km/h. The locomotive is owned by the DB Museum Nuremberg. The locomotive was temporarily operational after an overhaul at the Meiningen steam locomotive works in 2008. Since 2011, the locomotive, which is no longer operational due to the expiry of the deadline, has been on loan at the Dresden Transport Museum.
