The Nene Valley Railway has launched an appeal to raise more than £250,000 to complete a vital overhaul of BR Standard 5MT 4-6-0 No. 73050 "City of Peterborough", which is their flagship locomotive having been in preservation for almost 55 years. The present work commenced in 2017 with considerable attention being lavished on the boiler, which has the original 70-year-old steel fabric. Along with the comprehensive overhaul of the boiler, work continues apace and the frames, wheels and motion are gradually being re-assembled. But more money for the overhaul is still needed and details for the appeal can beound on the Nene Valley Railway’s website and social media pages.

The Toddington Standard Locomotive Ltd. owners of BR Standard 4MT 2-6-0 No. 76077, have launched an appeal to raise £150,000, the estimated cost of overhauling the locomotive’s boiler, which is currently at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway’s Toddington depot. The boiler of No. 76077 is in good general condition, but some important work will need to be carried out. It is hoped that No. 76077 could be in steam by December of 2026. Details for the appeal can be found on the Toddington Standard Locomotive Ltd. website and social media pages.

The Plym Valley Railway has successfully purchased ex British Sugar Corporation, Andrew Barclay built 0-4-0ST Works No. 2248 "Albert", from her owner following their appeal raised to buy the locomotive.

There is no mention of the presence of this loco on the website of the railway.

When this engine was in Puerto Rico, the line gauge would have been 3 foot. Was the engine gauge changed to/from meter?

Sorry about Dry Gulch numbers getting switched. Carbon Limestone #33 was Dry Gulch #43. Tennessee Coal Iron and Railroad #110 (used in Alabama) was Dry Gulch #7. Pioneer and Western #3 (the Crown 4-4-0) is now East Tennessee and Western North Carolina #15

This picture is of Tennessee Coal Iron and Railroad #110, alias Dry Gulch #43 now at Doe River. The notes are correct that the other engine (Carbon Limestone #33) is getting re-boilered for operation in 2024.

Originally built in 1964 (c/n 643736) for Vegasland amusement park in Las Vegas which did not get beyond turning the first shovel of dirt before one of the promotors ran off with the money. Was used as a steam source at Crown factory to test airbrake pumps until sold to Pioneer City in 1966. Then to Carowinds, then to Huntsville in orange and yellow lettered for Carowinds and Carolinas RR, possibly by way of South of the Border amusement park in South Carolina.

I believe that the previous post is in error. The loco remains at Stockton as far as I know. It would be an enormous task to return this one to running condition.

The 35011 is based at the Swindon & Cricklade Railway in Blunsdon. The lifted boiler (painted green for protection) can be seen in Google Earth (also Street View). Location: 51.605528° -1.841849° Image date: 4/22/2021 It is hoped to complete the chassis by the end of 2026. The boiler should then be ready for reinstallation on the frame in 2031.

4248 has been conserved rather than restored and is on static display at Swindon Steam Railway Museum dismantled as if a locomotive "in the works". No actual restoration is planned.

With her overhaul in the last few stages, the famous New-build LNER (Peppercorn designed) A1 Class Pacific No. 60163 "Tornado", will be visiting the Nene Valley Railway over Easter from the 28th of March to April 2nd 2024, for a series of events from Driving Exprience Courses, to Fish and Chip Dining Trains and a special running weekend as well as a photo charter.
