Batalhão Ferroviario Mauá 0-4-0ST+T No. 1 'Rio Negro'Posted by: Steve Frost, European Editor on May 18, 2021 @ 12:05:18
It may duplicate the manufacturer and works number details of Bathallo Ferrovia No 3, but the loco illustrated is certainly not a Kerr Stuart product. Its appearance is of a typical US built loco. I will change the details and leave it on the website until we know more about it.

Benxi Steel (US Army) 0-6-0T No. XK2 28(1430)Posted by: Russell Newman on May 8, 2021 @ 13:05:26
The XK2 Class is a United States Army Transportation Corps S100 or USA 0-6-0T. Built to fit within the British loading gauge numbers of them were sent to the UK, Europe and other parts of the world during the second world war from 1942 to 1944. Like the S160 2-8-0 round 20 S100 USA Dock Tank Locos were sent to China from 1945 and were classed as XK2 on China Rail and were put to work on the Hangzhou Nanchang Railway in eastern China. But as more powerful Chinese built Steam Locomotives took over many of the S100 0-6-0T’s later found their way into industrial service, especially in the steel industry in North, East China at Steelworks at Anshan and Benxi. The last USA Tank locos in China came out service in the early 1990’s and only two survived. XK2 28 originally United States Army Transportation Corps No. 1430 is one of them and worked at Benxi Steel Works until 1992 and was placed into storage at Benxi along with several other steam locomotives ever since. But who knows it could be a candidate for preservation overseas or elsewhere in China some day?

CR (USArmy) 2-8-0 No. KD6 487Posted by: Russell Newman on May 8, 2021 @ 09:05:28
KD6 487 is the only ex United States Transportation Corp. S160 Class 2-8-0 that is still in China today. 40 of the USATC S160 2-8-0’s where sent to China in 1945 and they were Classed as KD6 on China Rail and were modified after their arrival in China, gaining larger cabs and new chimneys more suited to the generous Chinese loading gauge. KD6 487 was the last S160, KD6 2-8-0 still in service in China finishing its working days at Pingzhuang opencast coal mine in late 1996 when she was replaced by the SY Class 2-8-2’s steam locomotives from Tangshan works. She remained at Pingzhuang until 2004 when she was saved for preservation by the Daqing mining company at Diaobingshan in Liaoning Province in northeast China. which operated the Tiefa system which is today operated as a heritage operation and one of China’s first standard gauge heritage railways and KD6 487 is part of their museum steam fleet. The other ex USATC S160 2-8-0 that worked in China as a KD6 to survive in preservation is No. 5197 formerly KD6 463 which is preserved in the UK and can be found at the Churnet Valley Railway.
