Current status should be changed to "overhaul". Locomotive is to receive a new boiler and firebox and will be down through at least 2019, possibly 2020.

Current status is out for repairs. Locomotive is tentatively scheduled to return later this summer, dependent on passage of FRA inspections of repairs to locomotive boiler.

Arcade & Attica Railroad personnel have completed a successful hydrostatic test on 18's boiler in compliance with FRA regulations.

Now begins the long process of turning 18 into a locomotive from a jigsaw puzzle! Ah, progress, ain't it wonderful?

Unfortunately, 18 is still out of service. When repairs began, it was found to be in much worse condition that was originally thought.

In addition to boiler work, work has also been done on both side sheets, the back sheet, as well as both flue sheets. Also, as expected, all flues have been replaced.

As re-assembly began, we also identified repairs needed on the running gear, driving boxes as wells as rod bearings.

As soon as the hydro is completed, I'll post an update. Until then, keep your figures crossed for a speedy 'recovery'.

I'm a 12-year old train fan and I miss A&A #18!! As of June/July 2005, 2-8-0 #18 is still undergoing repairs in several sections of her boiler, to meet the new FRA boiler safety regulations.   No specific date has been set for the #18's resumption to service.
