Greetings,

That is a great photo of MEC#501, way back in the 1980s. I joined the 470 RR Club about 12 years ago, and from 1997-2000, put in over 1,800 hours of volunteer work on the boiler. much of it was , in the form of refurbishing replacement of broken studs, ,brackets, ,inspection of and for dedfective staybolts, sleeves and working with various machists , with some origional MEC prints to make new components , which have been missing for decades., i have some very good photos of some of this work being carried out. The #501 is listed on MEC documents as built JUNE 1910. I was and still am considered to be the Master Mechanic on the restoration project. All photos ,except where noted are from my collection.  Thank You.

                                                                                                                        Sincerely,

                                                                                                                 John Smythe

This engine was not operational when the main photo was taken as suggested by the small amount amount of smoke coming from the stack. Rather this was taken shorty after the engine was delivered and an oiled rag was burned in the firebox for dramatic effect.
