The D&RG named and numbered ALL there Locos in the early days. 340 was originally numbed 400 and named "Green River" she was classified as a class 70 locomotive, she weighed 68000lbs the D&RG rounded up the weight. In 1924 when the railroad was re-organized the class 70 Locos became C-19s. The railroad reclassified them according to tractive effort (18,947lbs rounding up again) she was also re-numbed 340. Knotts purchased 340 in March of 1952.

The name Greenriver has been black out on the side of the cab of D&RGW No.340. Denver & Rio Grande Western never used names on their locomotives.
